!TOPIC 12 Outbound window
!NOINDEX

The outbound window contains information about who we have mail for, how many
files it is, how long it'll take to transmit, how many KBytes, and how old the
oldest file is.

The 3 categories of files are <R>equests, <A>ttaches, <M>ail packets.

The files have their own "stat" which is how important a file is.

The stats mean:

 Important Obviously this is the most important of the
               stats, the file will be sent even if Portal
               is in a Receive only event.

 Crash also important, but this stat respects the
               Receive only option of an event.

 Direct The file will be sent, if Portal is in an
               event, WITHOUT the CM-Only (Crash Mail
               Only) flag.

 Normal        Same as above.

 Hold The file will be sent, ONLY if the receiver
               polls you.

The 'S' column is the Send Status. It may contain one of the following
characters:

 '-' The file will NOT be sent during this
               event.
 '?' The destination node is unknown, so it will
               be treated as Hold.
 '*' Portal will attempt to send the file to the
               node, during this event.
 '!' Too many connection attempts have been
               un-successful, so no more calls will be
               made to this node, until it is cleared,
               either by a call from the receiver, from
               the Outbound manager, or a manual poll.

 '' The node is down, which is to say, that the
               node is not on-line. No calls will be
               attempted.

 Smile face The node is 13glued. The status will
               change, when Portal has made an exit, and
               has been reactivated, or when the
               161Dir & files: Outbound area(s) are reread.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 13 Glue/UnGlue
!NOINDEX

You can glue a node, if you have something for this node to be sent in this
event, and you temporarily want to prevent Portal from calling this node. A
glue is in effect until either you un-glue it, Portal is started again, or the
outbound area is re-read.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------

Most of Portal of Power is swapped to EMS/XMS or disk, leaving only about
8KB in conventional memory.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 23 Alt-K: Keyboard macros

Keyboard macros are a recording of a number of keys to be pressed in a certain
order, for some purpose. There is only one restriction to their use, and that
is that you CANNOT use macros that shells out of Portal, and then continues
after you return to Portal. Please refer to the manual, for a detailed
description of how to create your keyboard macros.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 24 Alt-L: Lock keyboard

If you have children, or pets, that like fooling around with your keyboard,
while you are not at home, and you do NOT like the idea of killing them (Why
not?? :-) you may lock your keyboard.

After pressing Alt-L you are prompted for a password. Finish the password by
pressing RETURN. To unlock the keyboard again, just type the password again.

The password MUST be entered EXACTLY as you want it, because upper/lower case
characters are NOT the same in the password!!!!!
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 25 Alt-M: Mailscanner

The mail scanner is not finished yet, and therefore this key is disabled in
this version. Rest assured that The Portal Team is working on this function.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------

The nodelist manager is used to edit/search in the nodelist.
;

!TOPIC 27 Alt-O: Outbound manager

Is used to maintain your 161Dir & files: outbound area.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 28 Alt-P: Poll a node

To poll a node means to establish a connection with the node, and exchange
mail/files, if any. To manually poll a node, just enter the node number of the
desired node, and press return. The node will then be found in the nodelist,
and the information on it, will be displayed, while waiting for a connection.

If the node does NOT exist, you'll be asked to confirm the node number. If you
confirm, that it is the correct number, you'll be asked for the phone number
to call.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 29 Alt-Q: Generate file list

Pressing Alt-Q will cause Portal to generate the file list, unless the setup
is incorrect. If you want to abort the file list generation, you may press
ESC.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 30 Alt-S: Multi-line status

Will display a screen with each line in the system, along with various
information, depending on, what each node is currently doing.
The display is updated every 10 seconds. Press ESC to exit from the display.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 31 Alt-T: Text editor

First of all, the text editor is NOT ment as a complete word processing
package, but as a handy editor, for control- and configuration-files.
Therefore, the editor can handle a maximum file size of 65521 bytes.

The commands used are fully Word Star<tm> compatible, i.e. ^Y to delete a
line, and ^N to insert a line. (^ means CTRL)

Further, some of the function keys have a special meaning:

  F2      Save current file.
  F3      Load file.
  Alt-F3 Pick recent file from a list.

For a complete list of commands, see 90Text Editor commands.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 32 Alt-U: User browser

Assuming that Portal supports user manager for your BBS type, pressing Alt-U
you should bring you to the user browser, and you should be able to see the
first page of user names, on the screen.

Select a user to edit, using the cursor keys, and press Enter to edit.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 33 Alt-V: Compile nodelist

readable by Portal. The files created depend on what type of nodelist you have
selected.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 34 Alt-W: Who is current node

This function will display the nodelist information for the node that is
currently highlighted in the Outbound packets window. If your outbound window
is empty, this function has no effect. If the node is not in the nodelist,
Portal will display "Unknown system" as the system name.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 35 Esc/Alt-X: Exit

When pressing Esc or Alt-X, you are about to leave Portal. You will see a
5 second countdown, and if you do NOT press Esc or Alt-X again before the
time runs out, Portal will resume normal operation. If you press Esc/Alt-X
again before the time runs out, Portal will exit with an errorlevel of 0.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 36 Alt-Z: Scan for files to forward
!NOINDEX

This function is actually two functions on one key. Firstly, Portal will check
your inbound for TICK files, and process them according to the TICK setup.
Secondly, your inbound directory is examined to determine whether there are
any files that should be forwarded using the normal file forward setup.
;
;-----------------------------------------------------------
!TOPIC 37 Enter: Poll current node
!NOINDEX

This is just an faster and easier way to make a manual poll to a node.
If you want to poll one of the systems that you have some mail or files
waiting for, simply use cursor keys to select the node in the Outbound packets
window, and press Enter. This is much faster that using 28Alt-P and entering
a node number there.
