TURGEDIT Usage Notes:
=======================================
Player Database Editor utility is being released at same
time as the IGM. Use either TURGED10.ZIP or THOUSE42.ZIP
to obtain the player database editor files.

  1) Obtain copy of turged10.zip (or thouse42.zip) by email
request, or by downloading it from various Fidonet and
Internet locations. The primary distribution source URLs
     are listed here:

     http://www.fidotel.com/public/camelot/LordApps/turged10.zip
     http://www.fidotel.com/public/camelot/LordApps/thouse42.zip
     - Castle Camelot Lordapps sub-directory.

     http://www.filegate.net/camelot/lordfile/turged10.zip
     http://www.filegate.net/camelot/lordfile/thouse42.zip
     - Camelot LordNews FDN's LordFile sub-directory.

     http://www.nightfallgames.com/files/Utils/turged10.zip
     -- Nightfall Games server's Utilities sub-directory.

     http://www.nightfallgames.com/files/Igms/thouse42.zip
     -- Nightfall Games server's IGMs sub-directory.

  2) Unzip all files from turged10.zip into your IGM directory,
using overwrite mode. The files in THOUSE42.ZIP will
contain all of the TURGEDIT files as well.

  3) Change into the Turgeon's House IGM directory. Verify you
have a TURGPLAY.DAT file dated after 09-01-2005. If you
     don't, then you can't use TURGEDIT.EXE.

  4) The first time you run the utility, it will ask you for
the path to the Turgeon's House IGM directory. Type it in, and
press ENTER to exit the dialog box prompt. TURGEDIT.CFG
file will be created in that directory.

  5) Run TURGEDIT.EXE. If a config file is not in the directory
you run it from, it will ask you to create on - as noted
above. If config file is found, it then checks for existence
of TURGPLAY.DAT file. If one is not found, program will
give error message and quit working.

TURGEDIT has only one screen of data. It shows database
fields in the order they are listed in the player database
record structure (usually). Each value, with one exception,
may be set to any value that is valid for it.

The Lord Player Number field is display-only. That is because
I don't see any valid reason to allow users to fiddle around
     the LORD Player Number field.

  6) When you exit TURGEDIT, it will resave the TURGPLAY.DAT
file so that any changes you made will be accessible to
the IGM. End of Notes for TURGEDIT usage.

[4.0] *** INSTALLATION + UPGRADING***

As of March 21th, 2005, Turgeon's House is usable by
all players up to FIVE times per day, depending on what
value the sysop/end-user uses in IGM Configuration.

Once an IGM event has been used it can NOT be used
again until the next LORD game day.

The player database was updated on March 21, 2005, with
nine new variables, which prevent re-usage of an IGM event
once it has been used. IOW, you will be able to re-enter
the igm multiple times, but can only eat Food in the kitchen
    ONCE, for example, each day.

The IGM's Player database structure was re-organized on
Sept. 01th, 2005. No new VARs were added.

The TURGEDIT.EXE utility is usable ONLY with version 4.20
of the Turgeon's House LORD IGM.

The TURGEON.DAT igm configuration file has SIX lines.
The last line is Max Visits/Day. It may be set by the
sysop/end-user to any value between 1 and 5. Any other
values will be rejected by the IGM.

Upgrading from version 4.00 to version 4.20:
    --------------------------------------------
If you have used version 4.00 earlier on current day, then
you have to delete the old turgplay.dat file. It is not
compatible with either v4.20 IGM or the TURGEDIT utility.

The only data file added by v4.20 was Turgedit.cfg.

If you have thmaint.dat and/or thouse3.cfg files, then
delete them. Versions 4.00 and 4.20 do not use either file.
    ============================================================

    Step-by-Step Installation instructions:
    ---------------------------------------
NOTE 1: If you are changing IGM directory names, or moving
the IGM data files to a new directory location, you can
manually edit turgeon.dat to use the new directory info.
    --------------------------------------------------------

    1) Unzip all files, using over-write mode, from THOUSE42.ZIP
into your Turgeon's House IGM directory. The IGM may
also be executed from LORD's directory, but that is not
       recommended.

    2) Brand new installation: Run THOUSE4 INSTALL command,
       and answer all questions.

Update from version 4.00: Run THOUSE4 CONFIG command
and re-verify that your old IGM configuration settings
       are still valid.

       - Answer all of the installation questions which are
shown in dialog window boxes. You will be asked for
your First and Last names, your Sysop Handle, your
BBS/Web-site Name, the LORD directory path, the IGM
         directory path, and Max Visits/Day.

       - You can use a mouse with the dialog boxes after
you have typed in the information the IGM asks for.

To use keyboard commands, use ALT-Y to answer YES
and ALT-N to answer NO to any dialog box prompts.

       - Max Visits/Day is limited to 1-5 data range.

       - The program will update the 3rdparty.dat file after it
asks if you want to include version number info on the
IGM's command line. Then it writes the Installation
notice to the LORD Lognow.txt file. If either file
can't be found during IGM installation, the IGM will
create the LORD data file and then update it.

       - Exit program when the IGM says installation is finished.

       - Your IGM Configuration file is named Turgeon.dat.
The IGM Player database file is named TurgPlay.dat.

The IGM time/date use file is named TurgTime.dat.
It is what determines whether the IGM does new game
day processing when a player enters the IGM from LORD.

The IGM Usage Reports file is named Turg-use.txt.

The IGM does not write any of its data files in the
LORD directory, unless that is where you installed it.

       - The IGM's entry lines written to your 3rdparty.dat file
are in this fashion. Alter Lord color codes to your own
         preference:

C:\Internet\Lord\TURGEON\THOUSE4.EXE /N* /GC:\Internet\Lord
`0Turgeon's House `!v4.20
================================================================

    3) Visually verify your 3rdparty.dat file to see if it needs
any changes. The entry for the IGM, if you use version
numbers, should indicate that players are using v4.20.
If you use LordMenu, update its data files if you have
made recent changes to 3rdparty.dat file.

    4) In order to use TURGEDIT, you have to use the v4.20 IGM
at least once. When it is run for first time, it asks
you to input the IGM directory path. Then it displays
the igm database records so all but one variable can be
changed/reset. The editor does not allow the user to
modify the LORD Player Number field.

       - TURGEDIT does not access any LORD data files. The only
data files it uses are turgedit.cfg and turgplay.dat.

That concludes the installation process for both the IGM
and for the TURGEDIT.EXE player database editor utility.

The IGM can also be run from the main LORD directory. None
of the IGM data files will conflict with LORD data files,
except for the igm's file_id.diz data file - which you can
    delete at any time.
    ==========================================================

    Changing Configuration Info after Installation:
    -------------------------------------------------
If you simply want to change Sysop Handle and/or Max Visits
per Day settings, then you can run THOUSE4 CONFIG command
from the IGM directory to do that.

To change the LORD directory path or IGM directory path,
that can be done manually. To have the IGM handle that
sort of configuration change, you have to un-install the
IGM and then re-install it, using THOUSE4 REMOVE command
    followed by THOUSE4 INSTALL command.

    ----------------------------------------------------------
In case you are wondering, I'm not making the Max Adoptions
per Day variable sysop-configurable. I think its fair
enough to allow players to adopt up to 10 kids per day. But
for them to have the chance to get more than 2 or 3 kids, you
the end-user have to allow at least 2 visits a day. 10/08/05 note.
    =========================================================

    Un-installing the IGM:

Change to the IGM directory. Run THOUSE4 REMOVE and
answer any prompts you are shown. To un-install TURGEDIT
when you don't intend to do an IGM re-installation, you
simply delete all TURGEDIT.* files from the directory.
    ==========================================================

    Creating/Updating IGM Usage Reports:

    - The two IGM usage reports are stored inside TURG-USE.TXT.
    - You have to be using a turgplay.dat file created by v4.20
      of the IGM.
    - Run the THOUSE4 REPORT command. That creates TURG-USE.TXT
if it does not exist, or recreates it otherwise.
    - There is a short delay before the IGM displays the usage
      reports on-screen.
    ============================================================

[5.0] *** TURGEON'S HOUSE FILE NOTES ***

      - Turgeon's House changes users stats in the LORD player.dat
file, and it writes data occasionally to the lognow.txt file.

There is always a slight chance that IGM usage can screw
up your LORD player.dat file, so back it up occasionally.
You can do this automatically using START.BAT or MAINT.BAT.
Just add a command line like this one to either file:

        COPY /Y player.dat player.bkp

      - LORD has been known to sometimes corrupt its own data files,
including player.dat. So it just makes sense to periodically
make backups of important data files.

      - Under no circumstance, does this IGM EVER change your
LORD registration status. 2004 compilations of LORD v4.07
beta's had a nasty habit of forgetting that a LORD game
has been registered, either during Daily Maintenance, or
after an IGM has been used. This problem was fixed in
        2005 following the IGM's v4.00 release in March 2005.

      - Turgeon's House has been extensively tested by myself,
        and by various beta testers.

      - If the player catches a Fairy in the closet, the IGM will
update the INFO.<node-num> file that LORD passed to it.

      - As of Feb. 12, 2005, if a player enters the IGM with negative
LORD stats, they are automatically repaired. Player is
notified of which stats had to be reset, and what they are
        reset to.

      - As of September 2005, the IGM will automatically repair
some LORD stats if they are over-range at IGM entry or
at IGM exit. The stats that are checked are Game Level,
Experience, Gold in Hand, Gold in Bank, Armour Number,
Weapon Number, the 3 Skill points stats, and the 3 Skill
USE points stats. The player is notified as to which
stats are repaired, and what value they were reset to.

      - As of Feb. 10, 2005, players may view the IGM's History
Notes text file from the IGM's main menu. File will scroll
downward as data is looked at or read. You can't exit the
process until it reaches the end of the turghist.txt file.
It is a brief summary of changes made to the IGM during
        each IGM development cycle.

You can also read Turghist.xt using programs such as Vern
Buerg's LIST utility, or Microsoft Windows' Wordpad program.
To get LIST, go to the Buerg Software web-site, which is
        located at: http://www.buerg.com/ .

      - As of Feb. 21, 2005, there are two usage reports in use by
the IGM. Both are view-able in the TURG-USE.TXT data file.
Use the THOUSE4 REPORT command to quickly and easily view it.

      - As of 09/02/05, the IGM automatically detects any *.CFX, *.DAX,
or *.TXX files, if any exist, that result from any RunTime
Errors that may occur during IGM usage. If those files are
found during IGM entry and IGM exit sequence, they are deleted
        automatically by the IGM.
================================================================

[6.0] *** SOMETHING'S WRONG!! ***
        - My IGM says I'm lacking a TURGEON.DAT file and will
          not run.

Answer: The IGM HAS to have an IGM configuration file.
If you don't have one, then it either got deleted or
you failed to install the IGM properly. Exit LORD,
change to the IGM directory, and run THOUSE4 INSTALL
          command. Then follow on-screen instructions.

        ------------------------------------------------------
        - If you have more than one LORD game on your system,
there is the possibility that one game's IGM config
file may have been replaced with one for a different
LORD game's THOUSE4 setup. Visually check your
turgeon.dat and make sure the LORD and IGM directory
path lines are correct for the current LORD game.

        ------------------------------------------------------
        - If you get any RTE (Run-Time Error) messages, such as
RTE 100, try deleting turgplay.dat and re-running the
IGM. Don't ever try to run the IGM with any of its
data files write-protected. That will cause the IGM
          to crash.

If RTE problem persists, send me details on your problem
to one of my email addresses, and I'll see what I can do
          to fix your problem.
================================================================

[7.0] *** REGISTRATION ***
        - Most of this was written by Mike Ciesiensky, Jr.

        - Turgeon's House is freeware, and does not require any
registration. But Mike Ciesiensky and I do like to
know who is using the IGM. So just drop us an email
sometime and let us know how you feel about the IGM.

<For those of you who are slow:>
        - If you want to give me or Mike money you can.
If you want to give us free registrations to one of
YOUR Lord igms, we won't say no <G> to that.

        - This is Dedicated to all those people who are TIRED of getting
IGM's that are trashy and not freeware. Then the Programmer
has the Audacity to charge an Arm and a Leg for their Trash!
        - I have nothing against Programmers like that, I just ask that
they make better IGM's and other programs, or at least not
          charge for them!

        - To report a bug, please e-mail the info to
          ktidmore@bellsouth.net or gtidmore@hiwaay.net

        - If you are another LORD IGM author, it would always be
nice to have registered copies of one of your IGMs. (HINT)

        - Without exception, all Castle Camelot LORD Apps are Freeware.
I write/update LORD programs as a hobby and as a programming
          challenge. Donald Tidmore.

  - There has been one other OLD release from -SKI- SoftWare and that is
a door game called Crime Boss <v1.10 was the latest version>. This
game is probably no longer around. I don't even have the source
code any more. - Mike Ciesiensky.
================================================================

[8.5] *** The Random Events, Visits/Day Info: ***

As of March 21th, 2005, the IGM may be configured for usage between
1 and 5 times per day. When you exit the IGM, there are two random
events which MAY execute. There is a 25% chance for each event of it
running, if you meet their requirements. At least two more random
events will be added in later versions.

The events will run ONLY for a legitimate user of the IGM. Someone
who tries to use the IGM more times than are allowed is denied
access to the Random Events, and they do not get to see the
ending Stats and Usage Reports screens.
  -------------------------------------------------

In the future, when the IGM is updated to cover Turgeon coming
home and catching burglars, those varmints will risk death at
his hands. And Fairies MAY not save them in that situation.
  ------------------------------------------------------------

  * NEW Random Event:
If you have a Horse, random event #1 will never execute. If it
does, you win a horse. If you have 32,000 or more kids, then
random event #2 will not execute. Otherwise, if it runs, you
get to adopt either One orphan child or TWO Orphan Children.
Neither event will run at all if you have used up your legitimate
  IGM Visits.

Note: As of 10-08-2005, the IGM will allow players to adopt up
to a maximum of 10 Kids per day. The random adoption event on
the porch is rewritten to grant either 1 or 2 Kids now.

The Fairies Adoption event will continue to offer players just
ONE child. And the Closet event can only be used once per day.
  ================================================================

  * NEW Random Event:
During a Weapons Trade, if your new Weapon Number is over 4 then
you have a 25 percent chance of the Random Injury Event occurring.

If you are clumsy, you drop your new weapon on your feet. The pain
and blood loss result in you losing 5% of your Strength points,
and 50% of your Hit-Points. Losses are limited to maximum of 500
strength points, and a maximum of 4,000 Hit-points. Event can only
at end of an weapons trade. Added to IGM on 10-10-2005.

Event Limit: New Weapon Number has to be 5 or higher.
  =======================================================================

  @ NEW Random Event:
During visit to Attic, if old lady grants the Charm blessing, player
then has 25% chance that she will grant a second gift of 5% of your
Max hitPoints. Reward is limited to maximum of 100 Max HPs. Event
can only occur once a day at end of the Attic visit. Added on 10-10-2005.

Event Limit: Player's Game Level has to be 3 or higher.
  ===========================================================================

[9.0] *** Future Updates Scheduled:

Development of new features: No timetable.

  1) Fairies in closet event: Ask for Skill Use Points Replenishment
for your current Skill Class. If they are agree-able, all of your
normal Skill Uses for the current skill will be renewed. Plus one
additional Use point like LORD does at the start of each new game day.

The Fairies would grant one NEW Skill use point, for the player's CURRENT
Skill Class, if he/she has not used any of their day's Skill Use Points.
Otherwise, fairy would replenish their day's Skill Use Points, for the
current Skill Class, to what LORD allows them to have, based on their
  current Skill Points.

  2) Random event in kitchen. Player eats or drinks something, and then
gets a stomach-ache. They throw up, make a mess (which they fail to
clean up) and they as a result lose Charm and Hit-Points. I may
code it to skip penalties if player chooses to clean up the mess
  they made in the kitchen.

  3) Random event. Player will risk loss of perhaps 25% of their Gold
and Gems while they are exploring the house.

  4) Random event. You are inside the house and Turgeon comes home and
finds you. Have not decided if player will risk death. They will
be beaten up at the least, and lose all but 1 Hit-Point, most likely.

  5) Creation of one or more new rooms in house. No details thought of
yet. Currently IGM consists of Porch, Foyer, Living Room, Hallway,
Bedroom, Kitchen, and Attic. I may create a Bathroom, and perhaps a
Library - where Turgeon may leave something valuable for people to claim.

  6) Turgeon comes home, and finds a player who has burglarized his
house. They may normally face a server beating. If they have
violated the Max Visits/Day rule, they probably will be killed.

Punishments probably will include 10-20 percent loss in Experience
Points, and a 10-20 percent loss in Max Hit-Points. Both penalties
may only be assessed one time per day. IF player is killed, Fairies
will NOT be allowed to save them probably.

  7) Random event. Fairies Closet. Allow player to ask for a surprise
cocktail drink. If wish is granted, it will grant player randomly
chosen amounts of Max HitPoints, Strength, and Defense Points. Will
  decide at later date what maximum reward amounts will be. {#9 entry added 10/08/05}

Timetable: Generally I wait about 2-3+ months between IGM
development cycles. Next work on the IGM will probably be at
some time after January 2006. (Unless someone reports bugs or
glitches that need to be repaired immediately, of course.)

[9.5] *** Handling IGM Crashes and Glitches:

What to do if IGM malfunctions:

Contact me via email or on Fidonet's Lord Echo with details
on the problem. If you don't have Email or Fidonet access, you
can contact me via postal mail:

Donald Tidmore, 1111 Berenice Street, Tuscumbia, AL (Alabama)
    35674-3504, U.S.A.

I would need to be able to try to reproduce the problem, so it
would be helpful to have an archive containing all of the IGM
data files, along with selected LORD data files - player.dat,
playext?.dat, lognow.txt, logold.txt primarily. If you are
able to save a screen snapshot showing the problem, then send
that to me as a GIF or JPG graphics file. If you have a BBS
session capture log, produced by most comm and telnet programs,
please send me the portion that applies to your usage of
Turgeon's House. One thing that is helpful is LORD Stats
screens done before and after IGM usage.

This IGM does not write anything to LORD's error.log file, since
the ANGEL toolkit does not have that feature. If the IGM crashes
it will be hard for me to fix the problem without details such as
the RTE number. If you see RunTime Error message, write down the
details to send to me, or make a snapshot picture of the screen,
using the PRINT SCRN keyboard key, if you can do so.

I have found that the PAINT program distributed with MS Windows
works just fine for making those screen snapshot graphics files.
With MS Windows XP, the program is called MSPaint. If you are
unused to how it works, here are some quick notes.

When you want to save a screen, you press the SHIFT key + the Print Scrn
key. You have to press both keys at the same time. That copies the screen
to the Windows clip-board. Open PAINT and use its Paste command. Then
save the file as a JPG graphics file. I can handle long filenames.

This IGM is fully tested under LORD v3.55 through v4.07 beta
using August 2005 compilations of LORD v4.07 beta.

Note: No new compilations of LORD v4.07 beta were released
during the month of September 2005.
------------------------------------------------------------

Acquisition of current IGM/Utility beta archives:

Files are uploaded to my web-site once a week usually. Files
online will not always be the most current version of an IGM
or utility beta, so check with me via email for the current
status of any LORD program.

WARNING: At times, a beta may not be working properly, so you
should contact me for a program's status info via E-Mail. You
can also reach me via Fidonet net-mail, Lord echo, DoorGames echo;
or via postal (snail) mail.

I am not currently using ICQ because it was a nuisance under Windows
XP in 2004, installing itself into my taskbar without permission. I
put up with that for awhile, and then quit using ICQ in Summer 2004.
