                                Mar. 2002

"A great place for the weathered adventurer to seek a frosty
pint and a fine meal. Redwood Tavern is home to many types.
Ruffians, scoundrels, famous warriors, and fair ladies all
frequent its environs. Some come to find company and a hearty
meal, others to toss dice in the infamous backroom. And
a select few come to acheive their dark intents, and mysteriously
         whisper in the tavern's shadows.."

1. About The IGM
=================
Redwood Restaurant & Tavern is an IGM, meaning In-Game-Module, and is
intended to be used as part of the on-line doorgame, LORD (Legend Of
  the Red Dragon).

Redwood Tavern makes an excellent addition to any LORD game, adding
humour, flavour and opportunities for player advancement, yet still
preserves the initial ideals of the original LORD.

If you are looking for an easy stat-grab program, you have been
misled, and will find no such thing here.

Since its release as freeware, Redwood provides a gambling backroom,
opportunities to poison other players and has capabilities to order food
and drink. It also permits a player a chance to start a bar brawl,
talk with the old barstool prophet, and relieve themselves at the
  restroom facilities.

Redwood is built with many random events, so the best way to find out
about the program is to experiment!

Consult the section on Playing the IGM to learn more.

2. Installation Instructions
=============================

I have tried to make installation as simple as possible, please follow
  the following steps:

    1. create a REDWOOD subdirectory under the LORD directory.
ie. if LORD directory is C:\LORD, then by typing at the prompt
             md C:\LORD\REDWOOD
             will generate the directory.
This directory can be created under Windows, the important thing
is that the directory exists and that it is named REDWOOD.

This is critical for the program to function properly.

    2. unzip the Redwood archive (ie. REDWDv2.ZIP) into the new
        subdirectory you just created.

The archive should contain the following files:

REDWOOD.DOC - the file you are reading.
REDWOOD.TXT	- txt equivalent of program documentation.
                REDWOOD.EXE - the main executable.
INSTRED.EXE - installation program for Redwood
                LOCCHAT.TXT - tavern chat file

To ensure the program works properly, all of these files
        must exist.

In addition to the aforementioned files, Redwood generates
        one other file during execution.

                REDWOOD.CFG - installation data
BARPLYR.DAT - data file exclusive to Redwood

    3. from the REDWOOD subdirectory, run INSTRED.EXE.

    4. Select "I" for Install, and follow all instructions
in the installation and it will guide you through setting
        up and configuring the program.

3. Uninstallation Instructions
===============================

Warning: If the REDWOOD.CFG file is non-existant, then uninstallation
cannot proceed. REDWOOD.CFG is created upon proper installation.

Should you decide to remove REDWOOD from your computer for
any reason (like temporary insanity), run INSTRED.EXE and
    select Uninstall ("U").

Redwood will remove all traces of itself from your computer and
    the LORD game.

4. Playing the IGM
===================

This section will outline various aspects of the IGM and what
    they do.

4.1. Conversing with local patrons -
This is just a chat board that give people who visit
Redwood the opportunity to leave a mark, express their
feelings, celebrate the latest Maple Leafs win, etc.

        4.2. Inciting a brawl -
For the anarchists out there, is the option to stir
the usual semi-peaceful environment of the tavern and
initiate a brawl. This initiates Redwood's fight
engine, which is primarily based upon LORD forest fight
statistics (with a few modifications of course).

4.3. Speaking with the barstool prophet -
The prophet is a self-proclaimed wise man, who is regarded
a permanent fixture in the tavern. He has been there
since the tavern was since built, and has never left.
Players can speak to him and hope for a chance to glean
some of his magnificent wisdom. But beware, he is also
known for his wrath and short temper.

        4.4. Ordering Food -
A player may gorge him/herself on one of 5 Redwood meals,
prepared by the Chef, with varying effects. Watch those
chicken bones! Only one meal per day is allowed.

        4.5. Buying Drinks -
A player can indulge in one of 5 Redwood beverages, served
by the bartender. Players have been known to get a little
too thirsty and wind up intoxicated...

        4.6. Visiting the restroom -
Of course, one can only handle so much of Redwood's fine
food and brew before natural calls. Visiting the rest
room provides the means to relieve oneself. Strange things
have been known to happen on occasion however...

        4.7. The Backroom -
The backroom contains a few facilities to gamble and try
to gain gold. Patrons must be careful, however, lest many
wins attract the attention of the owner, Radley Beef Plow,
who is not fond of losing. Brave players can also try to
rob the casino, but have to beat Radley first..

5. Special Thanks
==================

Special Thanks goes out to Seth Robinson, the original inventor
of LORD, for providing years of good-natured fun and gameplay.
Coincidently, Seth also helped me with my early coding practices
        years and years ago.

I would also like to mention a special thanks to one Donald Tidmore,
who years after the initial Redwood release tracked me down and
initiated this rebuild. This IGM would not be here without him.

6. Author's Note:
==================

Should you find anything defective regarding this product, please
don't hesitate to contact me. This program is released freeware,
meaning it does not cost you anything to use it, nor is it crippled
        in any sense.

Thanks for using this game, and for continuing the spirit of LORD.

I have a few doorgames in development (and one on the market), that
I might finish / rebuild, so if you are interested, watch for them.
