LORD IGM: THE PAWN SHOP **FREEWARE**
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

IGM VERSION 3.80 beta -- DOCUMENTATION --- January 2006 Development.
Also covers SHOPEDIT utility version 1.00

    ** PAWNSHOP.EXE Compile Date: January 23, 2006. v3.80

    ** PSETUP.EXE Compile Date: January 23, 2006. v3.80

    ** SHOPEDIT.EXE Compile Date: January 23, 2006. v1.00
-- IGM's Player Database Editor utility.

    ** Docs update: January 24, 2006.
=================================================

** VERY IMPORTANT - READ THIS NOW!! **

09/12/05: I have disabled the lockfile.dat code so the
IGM is working at this time as a multi-node program.
Until I have the ps-fight.dat related code fully tested,
and any other code that appears to not work right in
multi-node operation, the igm will remain multi-node enabled.

Report any problems you encounter to me immediately!

Lockfile code will be re-enabled for release of IGM
officially as version 3.80. Then permanently removed
when possible for re-release of igm later this year as v4.00.

At that time, IGM will also change from pawnshop.cfg to
pawnshop.dat for the IGM configuration file. End 09/12/05 notes.
==============================================================

** VERY IMPORTANT - READ THIS NOW!! **  {Added 01-09-2006}

As of 01/09/2006, The Pawn Shop is no longer using PAWNSHOP.CFG.
The IGM now uses PAWNSHOP.DAT, which contains a different
configuration structure, and ONE new variable: Sysop_Handle.

To update to the Jan. 09 beta, do this:

1. Unzip contents of PawnWork.zip -- which you need to get from
me via Email -- into your IGM directory, using overwrite mode.

2. Run PSETUP CONVERT command. It will convert pawnshop.cfg to
pawnshop.dat, display the new file's configuration settings,
and then exit. You can also use: PSETUP.EXE CONVERT .

ConvPawn.exe has been taken out of usage as of 01/23/2006
now that the Conversion process is built into PSETUP.EXE.

The IGM executable file, PAWNSHOP.EXE, and the Setup/Maint file,
PSETUP.EXE, now use Pawnshop.dat. Resume normal use of the IGM
at this point. Usage of SHOPEDIT.EXE was not affected by the
change in configuration file structure, and config file name.

End of 01/09/2006 update.
================================================================

** 01/10/2006: Changed PSETUP.EXE so that users view/change
the IGM Usage Limits values, stored in PSLIMITS.CFG, using a
new LIMITS CONFIG MENU process. The old process made you have
to re-select values for ALL of the Limits, even if you just
wanted to change a single value. This new process will work
much faster now.

Fine-tuning will take a little while, so be aware that this
new component of PSETUP.EXE is not finished yet.

I'll also be working on a way for people to edit the values
in PAWNSHOP.DAT without their having to go through the entire
Installation process. That update will take some time to
plan out, code, and then test and verify. Donald.

=========================================

IGM Utility: Pawn Shop Player Editor
Shopedit Author: Donald Tidmore.

Note: As of 09-28-2005, Shopedit's dedication
is now to the memory of John Wayne.

Version 1.00 -- January 2006 development.
-- Official release will be done sometime soon.

    -- Development started on Jul. 14, 2005.
-- For usage only with the DOS LORD IGM.

-- Requires you to have a current EXPTRADE.DAT file.
-- You also need to be using v3.70+ of the IGM.

Distributed inside the shopedit.zip beta archive.

To reduce size of PawnWork.zip, I've taken the
shopedit.exe file out of it. 01/24/2006 note.
  --------------------------------------------------

  SHOPEDIT Usage Notes:
  =======================================
  1) Obtain current copy of program from me via email.
It is distributed inside the Shopedit.zip archive.

  2) Unzip all files from PawnWork.zip into your IGM directory,
using overwrite mode so you get the newest files. Then
     do the same with Shopedit.zip.

  3) Change into the PawnShop IGM directory. Verify you have
a current EXPTRADE.DAT file. If you don't, then you can't
     use SHOPEDIT.EXE.

The player database only tracks ONE day of IGM use. Once
PSETUP Maintenance has run, you will no longer have a player
database until someone enters the IGM. Therefore, don't try
to use SHOPEDIT without an exptrade.dat file.

  4) The first time you run the utility, it will ask you for
the path to the PawnShop IGM directory. Type it in, and
press ENTER to exit the dialog box prompt. SHOPEDIT.CFG
file will be created in that directory.

  5) Run SHOPEDIT.EXE. If a config file is not in the directory
you run it from, it will ask you to create on - as noted
above. If config file is found, it then checks for existence
of EXPTRADE.DAT file. If one is not found, program will
give error message and quit working.

SHOPEDIT has only one screen of data. It shows database
fields in the order they are listed in the player database
record structure (usually). Each value, with one exception,
may be set to any value that is valid for it.

The Lord Player Number field is display-only. That is because
I don't see any valid reason to allow users to fiddle around
     the LORD Player Number field.

  6) When you exit SHOPEDIT, it will resave the EXPTRADE.DAT
file so that any changes you made will be accessible to
the IGM. End of Notes for SHOPEDIT usage.
==============================================================

0.75: Player Database Updates: Removed Gems_Ban variable from database
on Aug. 21th. IGM no longer will limit amount of Gems players
can trade each day. I decided that particular idea just wasn't
      worth keeping around.

If you use Aug. 21 beta, and have previously used PSETUP, PAWNSHOP,
or SHOPEDIT earlier in the current day, you will need to delete
your existing EXPTRADE.DAT player database file. It is no longer
compatible with either of the three programs after removal of the
Gems_ban variable from the player database structure.

      ** Notes section 0.75 added on 08/21/2005. **

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
2.0 INTRODUCTION:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Congratulations on grabbing a copy of THE PAWN SHOP! Chris made this
IGM in hopes that it will complement LORD and add to its fun, not give
players unfair advantages, or extreme rewards (like so many other IGMs
unfortunately do). Donald: And I've tried to keep things that way also,
and I've added more IGM events for players to use over time.

THE PAWN SHOP has many features common to several IGMs currently out
there but offers many new choices and options in addition. First of all,
THE PAWN SHOP is an IGM in which a LORD player may actually own and run.
In fact, all monetary transactions are kept track of and stored in a vault.
From this, THE PAWN SHOP decides on whether it can afford to buy weapons,
armour, gems, etc... from players. The vault, itself, can be robbed by
players and should THE PAWN SHOP go bankrupt, the current owner is dropped
and another may step forward to take his/her place.
  --------------------------------------------------------------

This IGM should NOT be used with any version of DOS LORD before
v3.55. The STAY OVERNIGHT feature requires v3.55+, but other
features MIGHT work with older LORD versions. But I do not
provide support for those old versions at all. Donald. 06/22/05.
  --------------------------------------------------------------

Other features of THE PAWN SHOP are that you can buy all the weapons
and armour offered in LORD but at 95% of their regular price. You may
also trade gems for elixirs but only 1 Gem per Elixir is required.

There are a few other items offered for sale and you can (if you have
the gold) buy 'Services' from the resident low-life Blackey. :)

Some services sold by Blackey require payment in Gems. A few are
free, such as displaying your Stats. Some services are handled by
Blackey personally, while the others are handled by his mercenaries.
  ------------------------------

Customer may exchange Experience points for either Max Hitpoints,
Strength, Defense, or Charm. Rate is based on an variable amount of
Experience for each elixir potion wanted. Player may purchase as
many potions as your Experience points will cover, subject to a 20%
limit - computed at IGM entry on player's FIRST visit to IGM. Once
player reaches that trade limit, they may not use Experience Trade
  again until the next day.

** The Exp. Trade Rate Limit can be adjusted by the user, but may
not exceed a 50% rate for Experience Trade. **

"Naughty" customers get an increased chance of their drinks being
"Bad Brews". "Hated" customers aren't allowed to use Wendy or Blackey
services at all. Trade Experience feature is available only to Level
2+ players who have 1,000+ experience points.
  ------------------------------

Along with the IGM keeping track of potions obtained via Gems Trading
or Experience Trading, it also tracks potions bought with Gold - such
as Spartan Warrior - each day. Once a player has obtained 3,200 potions
-- or whatever amount the sysop chooses in pslimits.cfg file -- they may
not do any more Gems/Experience Trading, for potions. But they can
continue to buy Potions for Gold, as long as they afford them. And
usage of Gems trading for non-potions items is not affected, unless you
  are declared Naughty by Wendy.

** This limit can also be adjusted by user, but may not exceed 16,000
for Potions Traded per day amount. Default value is 8,000 potions/day.

Purpose of built-in maximum values is to prevent mis-use of the
IGM's potions trading limits config file.
  --------------------------------------------------------------------

So that ownership of shop doesn't give victor of dragon fight an
unfair advantage over other players - via their ability to withdraw
Gold and Gems from shop vault, the owner will receive a visit from
the royal tax agent. The Dragon Tax is 50% of Gold and Gems invested
in shop by the owner player.
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  ** READ THIS !!!! **

12/15/05 Notes: I've fixed PAWNSHOP.EXE so that if the user runs the IGM
in LORD, and the pslimits.cfg file does not exist, the IGM will create
the file using default settings. Its up to the sysop/end-user to check
the file, using PSETUP /C, and make any changes they want to the limits
  settings.

PSETUP.EXE, during un-install process, now shows you what data string it
used to search 3rdparty.dat and maint.bat file. If you have more one
than Pawn Shop installation in a LORD game, the un-install process will ONLY
remove the Pawn Shop setup that is based in the current directory that
PSETUP is running from. The other igm setups of The Pawn Shop are left in place.

Remember when you do un-install the IGM, that you are supposed to visually
verify your 3rdparty.dat file to make sure that its content is as desired.

IGM Setup programs can occasionally screw up so you should do this all the
time with ALL of your LORD igms.
  ============================================================================

2.10: Notes regarding Horse/Fairy/Orphan Child Gems Trades:
===========================================================
Customers may purchase Horse, Fairy or Orphan Kids provided
  (1) that they have enough Gems, (2) they have not reached the
Fairy/Horse/Adoptions Limits, and (3) they are in good standing
  with Wendy.

  Limits Info, as of 08/01/05:
  ----------------------------
  1. Sysop-Configurable. 1-12 Fairy Gems Trades are allowed per day.
Does not count Horse for Fairy trade swaps by players. Each
     Fairy costs 30 Gems.

2: IGM Constant: 1-12 Horse Gems Trades are allowed per day.
Does not count Fairy for Horse trade swaps by players. Each
     Horse costs 15 Gems.

3: Sysop-Configurable. 1-5,000 Orphan Gems Trades are allowed
per day. Customers may trade for up to 100 Kids per gems
trade. Limit covers Kids obtained from Wendy's Blessings
and Adoptions made via Gems Trades each day.

Kids Stolen via the KIDNAP mercenary service are not counted
as Adoptions, so they don't count against the Daily Adoptions
Limit. Each orphan costs 40 Gems.

     A) Players can not use Adoptions service if they already have
32,000 or more Kids. B) Once player meets the Adoptions Limit,
further adoptions that day are not allowed -- unless the sysop
increases the limit during the day.

As of 09/05/05, players may adopt up to 100 Orphan Kids per
Gems Trade session. And as of 09/14/05, customers can adopt
up to a maximum of 5,000 Kids per day. Kids/Day limit is
configurable in 1-5,000 range by sysop/end-user.
  -----------------------------------------------------

Fairy trades are limited due to their use by various Mercenary
Services, so I felt it advisable to control this IGM event.

Horse Trades, as of 08/01/05, will be limited to 1-12 range.
I don't see a need for this to be sysop-configurable.

  =================================================================
Usage Reports Data: Fairy and Horse Trades per player are listed
on Report #2. Kids Adopted and Kids Stolen are on Report #3.
The Shop Owner player and their player spouse may view the Usage
Reports for free from Office Menu. All other players, provided
they are in Good Standing, can buy access to the Reports from
  Wendy.

The sysop user can view/update the Pawn-use.txt reports file using the
PSETUP REPORT command, or by choosing a menu option inside PSETUP.
  =====================================================================

2.20: Notes regarding Major Updates of the IGM in 2005:
=======================================================

Feb. 23, 2005 Player Database Updates:
  --------------------------------------
  * Added Orphan Trades counter.

Mar. 15, 2005 Player Database Updates:
  --------------------------------------
  * Added Fairy Trades, Foul Language uses, and IGM Visits counters.

Apr. 26, 2005: New IGM data files:
  ----------------------------------
  * Added use of ROB-GOLD.DAT file. Deleted use of old ROB.DAT file.
Players can only be robbed of Bank Gold or Gems once per day.
Rob-Gold.dat tracks who has been victims of Gold robbery - but
that is only if the robbery is successful.

  * Added use of ROB-GEMS.DAT file. It tracks who has been a
victim of Gems Theft, if the robbery was successful.

Original ROB PLAYER service only stole Gold. I decided in
April 2005 to allow players to choose to steal Gems from other
  player as well.

Apr. 30, 2005: New IGM data files:
  ----------------------------------
  * The old BULLETIN.TXT file is now named PAWNBULL.TXT.

  * Added option in IGM, handled by Blackey, that allows the
player to view the LORD Daily News file from inside the IGM.
IGM makes copy of the lognow.txt file and displays the file
LNWSCOPY.TXT on-screen once player has paid the access fee.

Jun. 21, 2005 Player Database Updates:
  --------------------------------------
  * Added Banish uses, Kidnap uses, Poison uses, Gems Thefts,
and Gold Thefts counters. Also added fields for tracking
gain/loss from Mercenary Services that involve Experience,
    Gold and Gems.

Jun 25, 2005 Player Database Updates:
  --------------------------------------
Fixed glitches with Gems Thefts and Gold Thefts variables.

  * Credit for the June 2005 updates goes to Don Young of the X-Bit
BBS, who notified me of long-term abuses of this IGM. BANISH
and POISON were being used heavily by bullies to prevent
people from being able to play LORD at all for days at a time.

The Mercenary Protection service was being heavily abused by
people in Pacific time zone, causing great havoc in LORD games
held in other time zones. Players in Pacific zone were getting
protection and then abusing the mercenary services heavily. Everyone
else suffered as a result because they could not retaliate against
the bullies who had Wendy's Protection.

The \NoProtect IGM command line variable was added to prevent
that abuse from continuing to happen. It is up to the sysops
to use it. It is also their responsibility to monitor their
BBS door games and BAN bullies from them. No IGM or door game
author can do a complete job of handling bullies. That is the
  sysop's responsibility.

The alternative is to disable ALL access to Blackey Menu. You
do so by using \NoBlackey on the IGM command line. You can
only use ONE at a time. Please always use PSETUP /C Install
IGM feature for enabling use of either \NoBlackey or \NoProtect.

To disable them, simply delete the parameter from the Pawn Shop
IGM command line in your 3rdparty.dat LORD file. You can also
Un-install and Re-install to disable either parameter. However
that wipes out all data in the two IGM config files, which you
have to recreate line by line in PSETUP INSTALL and CONFIGURE
  processes.

  ============= IMPORTANT:  READ THIS!!!!! ====================
July 13, 2005: Using Foul Language in The Pawn Shop more than
FIVE times in a day now results in DEATH of the player. I am
not making any exception for Shop Owner Players, and there will
be no escape from death for players who have a Fairy.

Shop Owner is banned from using Blackey Menu on their fourth
violation, so they are immune from being killed by Blackey.
  =============================================================

Aug. 01, 2005: Added Horse Trades/Day Limit as internal IGM
constant, using 1-12 range. Added Max Visits/Day Limit in
PSLIMITS.CFG file, for sysops to configure, using 1-20 range.
Individual users of IGM can choose how many visits a day they
wish to allow. Update the IGM Limits File using PSETUP /CONFIG.

Shop Owner player/Shop Owner's player spouse - Both are subject
to the Visits/Day limit, as are all customers w/o exception.

Aug. 03: Revised Flirt with Wendy, Flirt with Blackey events.
Reduced amount of Experience Points they will grant, and
increased amount of Charm/Defense points granted if player
gets 0 exp. points from Wendy or Blackey.

Aug. 04: Added/tested Multiple adoptions code. IGM now will
allow players to adopt up to 50 Kids per gems trade session.

Sept. 01-14: IGM allows players to adopt up to 100 Kids per
gems trade. Adoptions/Day limit is in 1-5,000 range. Pawn
Shop is now using same adoption settings as my Gem Trader and
  Doofus the Gnome IGMs.

  ------------------ READ THIS!! -------------------------------
Sept. 26: Normally, you can not use mercenary services on any
warrior who is also online in LORD. There are four exceptions.
You may use INTERCEPT, LEARN, MAIL and SPY commands on any player
except for the shop owner, who is protected from mercenaries.

All of the mercenary services have been retested to ensure that
they work properly when the targeted player is either in LORD
or is also using The Pawn Shop at the current time.

2.30: Instructions for using the current betas of Pawn Shop:
========================================================
(1) Contact me via email to see if there are any special instructions
that you need to follow before using the January 2006 betas.

(2) Using Pawnwork.zip, which you should always get directly from me
so that you know you are using the CURRENT beta, follow these
simple instructions. Detailed config change instructions are listed
farther down in this file.

Unzip all files from pawnwork.zip using overwrite mode.
(Pkunzip -N pawnwork --OR-- wzunzip -n pawnwork)

Note: January 2006 betas are being used to test multi-player
usage of the IGM, so some things may not always work correctly
during the current development cycle. Report any problems you
encounter to me, via email or using Fidonet mail. I can be
reached via NetMail, LORD echo, or DoorGames echo on Fidonet.

DO NOT try updating Pawn Shop files under ANY Circumstance while
LORD is running. Close it down before you do *ANY* PSETUP commands.

Visually check your PAWNSHOP.DAT file. Don't attempt to modify
values yourself unless you know what each line is for (which this
docs file tells you). Always use PSETUP to change values in the
  PAWNSHOP.DAT or pslimits.cfg data files.

In general, making a backup of your pawntime.dat, pslimits.cfg,
and PAWNSHOP.DAT files at the start of each new day - using the
LORD maint.bat file - is highly recommended. That way, if the
igm fouls up in a major way, you can restore from those backup
files and resume normal Pawn Shop usage.

Change to the Pawnshop igm directory and run PSETUP /C.

The program will display your current PAWNSHOP.DAT settings.
The component being run is the primary IGM Configuration Menu,
and you can View the current settings in pawnshop.dat and
pslimits.cfg from the menu. To edit/view the Usage Limits,
you just run the IGM Limits Config Menu option, as of 01-10-2006.

At present, you can only change Lord Path, IGM Path, Sysop Handle,
and BBS Name configuration values from the main Configuration Menu.

The other config file values cover Shop Office ownership, and
Vault Gold/Gems Balances. Those values can not be edited via
PSETUP.EXE at this time. (I will think about allowing such
editing access at a later date this year.)
  =============================================================

Configuration Menu Options: As of 01/10/2006:
  ----------------------------------------------
The first program variable statement covers the directory
location PSETUP.EXE is being executed from. The next FOUR
values allow users to view/change Lord Path, IGM Path, Sysop
  Handle, and BBS Name.

Option D: Display IGM Data Files Info.

Option I: Runs the Install process.
Note: If the IGM is already installed, the program tells you,
and then exits back to the Configuration Menu. To change
the IGM's entry in 3rdparty.dat, you have TWO options. One
is to do it manually. The other is to (a) Un-install igm,
	  (b) re-run Configuration process, and (c) Re-Install the igm.

Option 6: Display Current IGM Config Settings.
This shows a screen that lists the contents of PAWNSHOP.DAT.
If file does NOT exist yet, this option is NOT available.

Option 7: Run Usage Limits Config Menu. (NEW, as of 01-10-2006)
Allows user to view current settings, if the PSLIMITS.CFG file
exists already, and to change any that they wish to edit.
When you exit this menu, the file is automatically updated.

Option V: Display Current IGM Usage Limits.
It shows a report screen showing the contents of PSLIMITS.CFG.

Option U: Runs the Un-Install process.

Option R: Runs the Reset IGM Process.
It deletes the current PAWNSHOP.DAT and PSLIMITS.CFG files, along
with all other IGM data files, giving you a brand new IGM setup.
Afterwards, you have to redo the IGM Configuration File settings
and the IGM Usage Limitis settings.

Option Q: Quits the Configuration Menu process. Saves all open
data files including PAWNSHOP.DAT and PSLIMITS.CFG, and exits
from PSETUP.EXE. The current Vault Gold/Gems Balances info
	 is shown at igm exit.
===================================================================

  IGM Configuration Notes:
  --------------------------
If you have one or more Mercenary Services disabled -- BANISH,
KIDNAP, POISON, GEMS THEFT, or GOLD THEFT -- their status will
be shown on-screen as being disabled. (To disable a limit, you
just set its value at Zero. Some limits can NOT be disabled,
such as Max Visits per Day.)

If all of the displayed Limits settings are OK, you don't need
to Run "Usage Limits Config Menu . Its purpose is to (a) display
the current values for each limit, and (b) allow you to edit the
limit values you wish to change.

4-C) None of the Daily Limit values can be negative numbers.
All numbers have to be integer values. Example: You can't
say .20 in response to the Daily Exp. Trade Limit question.
It has to be a whole number such as 20. The IGM itself will
convert it into a percentage point value as needed.

PSETUP will automatically change any negative values to the
default value for each limit while it is reading the existing
PSLIMITS.CFG file. This is also done during IGM initialization
when you run Pawn Shop from LORD's Other Places menu.

This is applicable only if you are using \NoBlackey or \NoProtect:
Visually check 3rdparty.dat file and make sure there are no
glitches, which sometimes can occur. If using LordMenu or
similar program, update its data files at this time.
  =============================================================

Limit variables 1 through 4 are for the following purposes:

  1) Gems for Potions Trades. Range is 1-16,000 with default
value of 8,000. Determines how many potions can be bought
via Trading or Purchases each day.

  2) Exp. Trade Limit Rate. Range is 1-50 percent. Only
whole numbers can be used. Default setting is 20. Controls
percentage of player's Experience they can trade in daily
for Max HPs, Strength, Defense, or Charm Points.

  3) Fairy Trades Limit. Range is 1-12. Default is 5. Controls
number of Fairies players can buy via Gems Trade each day.

  4) Orphan Child Trades Limit. Range is 1-5,000. Default is
1,1250. Controls number of Adoptions players can make each
day via Gems Trading. Players may adopt 1 to 100 Kids at a time.

Limits #5 through #9 are intended to stop the abuses of the
BANISH and POISON mercenary services, and to stop possible
abuses of KIDNAP service and the ROB PLAYER service.

  5) Banish Limit: Range is 0-5. Default is 3. If you set
it to Zero, it prevents ALL usage of BANISH PLAYER service.
Once the limit is reached, players will be denied further
access to BANISH PLAYER service for rest of the day. When
limit is Zero, it will activate the NoBanish IGM variable.

  6) Kidnap Limit: Range is 0-100. Default is 50. Once the limit
is reached, players will be denied further access to KIDNAP
CHILDREN service for rest of the day. When limit is Zero, it
activates the NoKidnap IGM variable. Limit applies either
to # of uses of KIDNAP service, OR to # of Kids Stolen.

You get to kidnap up to 5 kids at a time, as of 09/05/05.

  7) Poison Limit: Range is 0-5. Default is 3. If you set
it to Zero, it prevents ALL usage of POISON PLAYER service.
Once the limit is reached, players will be denied further
access to POISON PLAYER service for rest of the day. When
limit is Zero, it will activate the NoPoison IGM variable.

  8) Gems Theft Limit: Range is 0-5. Default is 3. Covers
theft of Gems from other players. That service has internal
limits that determine amount of Gems you can steal. If you
set it to Zero, it activates the NoGemsTheft IGM variable.

  9) Gold Theft Limit: Range is 0-5. Default is 3. Covers
embezzlement from other player's Bank Gold. Internal limits
control the amount of Gold you can steal. If you set it to
Zero, it activates the NoGoldTheft IGM variable.

  10) Added 08/01/05 based on feedback from beta testers:
Max Visits/Day Limit: Range is 1-20.
  ----------------------------------------------------------

PSETUP will create or update PSLIMITS.CFG when you exit the
IGM Usage Limits Menu. It then returns you to the main
Configuration Menu, from which you can exit PSETUP.EXE.

Default/Max values for Limits #5-#9 changed on 06/25/05.
  ----------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: In some of the mercenary services, I am changing them
so that if the targeted victim kills your mercenary, you will
lose 5 percent of your Experience to the victim player. That
is a control feature being implemented to prevent possible
abuses of the IGM. IGM used to award the victim 10% experience
computed using the victim's EXP. points balance.
  -----------------------------------------------------------

Each new LIMIT variable has a matching player database
counter which will track accesses of the corresponding
  Mercenary Service each day.

As of 11:00 pm 06/23/05, usage of all 7 service disabled
IGM variables, except for NoBlackey, has been tested and
they are working as I intend them to do.

2.40: IGM Usage Report notes:
=======================================================
  * The disk file is named PAWN-USE.TXT and can be viewed
using any program that reads text files, or by using
PSETUP. Simplest and quickest access is to use the
	 PSETUP /REPORT command.

  * Usage Report #1 was added in 2004. It covers Lord Name,
Experience Traded, Gems Traded, Potions Bought, Visits,
	 Fairy Trades, and Horse Trades.

  * Usage Report #2 covers Exp. Trade Limit Rate; and amounts
of Max HitPoints, Strength, Defense and Charm purchased.

  * Usage Report #3 covers, as of 06/21/05, Kids Adopted, Kids
Stolen, # of Gems Thefts, Wisdom gain/loss, and # of Bank
	 Gold Thefts.

  * If you have pawnrept.bat file, you can delete it. It is
no longer in use. PSETUP.EXE originally was not able to
display the file on-screen, so it was provided as a service
	 to users of this IGM.

  * If you have an bulletin.txt or ps-time.txt file, delete them.
The IGM now uses PawnBull.txt for the Bulletins file. The
other file was a temporary file and is no longer in use by PSETUP.

  * You can't use PSETUP /REPORT if you do not have a current
EXPTRADE.DAT file. It also should not be used with OLD
copies of the file, since they probably will use out-dated
player database structures. You must be in the IGM directory
where EXPTRADE.DAT is located to use PSETUP /REPORT.

  * Players may pay Wendy to view the Usage Reports. She
does not charge a lot. Normally, you have to have access
to the Shop Office to view them from inside the IGM.

If player is on Hate List, they are banned from using all
of Wendy's Services, as well as all of Blackey's Services.
  -----------------------------------------------------------------

  * WARNING: Avoid using PSETUP to change values in PAWNSHOP.DAT,
or in PSLIMITS.CFG while the IGM is in use. It is a possible
source of IGM usage complications, so that situation should
be avoided. PSETUP /Report may be used safely while the IGM
is in use, but will not be completely up-to-date in such cases.
=================================================================

2.50: Multi-Player Usage Support:
---------------------------------
The Pawn Shop is designed for use by one player at a time, since
it was not designed by Chris to support multiple players. I have
not tried to change that in the past two+ years of development.

When the IGM is in use, the Lockfile.dat file is created. If
someone else tries to enter, while lockfile.dat exists, they
are denied access. There are no exceptions.
  -----------------------------------------------------------------

** August 2005 Note: Once current IGM coding has been completely
verified, I will work on making IGM multi-player, by eliminating
usage of the lockfile.dat code. When that is working, IGM will
be re-released as version 4.00, along with a reorganization of
the IGM Configuration settings file Pawnshop.cfg. 08/01/05 note.

  ----------------- 11/22/2005 Note: -------------------------
I started testing multi-player usage of IGM on Sept. 12th.
Testing of IGM's handling of Office ownership claims when
more than one player tries to do a Office Claim is in progress.
  ==================================================================

Multi-Node support: The IGM will work with as many BBS Nodes
as your LORD game supports. DOS LORD's documentation indicates
that is 999 nodes theoretically. That limit is probably due
to fact that DOS can only handle three digit file extensions.

Why is there not multi-player support? I have not had any
good ideas about how to enable it, without creating conflict
situations. Such as possibly having two players attempting to
claim shop Office at same time. How would IGM decide which
one got to do the Shop Claim?

Almost all of Blackey's Mercenary services, and some of Wendy's
  services, involve player-player interactions.
===============================================================

2.60: Special Parameters Usage: Added 06/21/2005:
=================================================

I was looking into usage of the NoBlackey variable and found out
it has not been usable since Pawn Shop was converted in December
2002-January 2003 to use the ANGEL Tool-kit. I restored its
usage on Jun. 21th, 2005. This documentation file, dating back
to the one used by version 3.00, also had failed to even mention
NoBlackey was an available option. Just as well, since the
original instructions to use /NoBlackey on the IGM command line
for Pawn Shop turned out, under ANGEL, to cause the IGM to crash.

PSETUP has been updated to ask if you wish to use either of two
special parameters in the 3rdparty.dat file's IGM command line
used by LORD to execute this IGM. You can't use both of them.

\NoBlackey - If used, it de-activates all usage of Blackey Menu.
The game still be be used, it just won't be as exciting <G>. But
if that is how you want to use the igm, you can do that now.

\NoProtect - I was told by Don Young that players were abusing
Wendy's Protection. So this parameter was created to deactivate
Wendy's Buy Protection service. While in use, NO one is protected
from mercenary attack EXCEPT for the Shop Owner player.

The shop owner is ALWAYS protected from mercenary attack. It is
one of the primary privileges of shop ownership. (Their spouse is
NOT protected.)

You can use PSETUP to change an existing installation of Pawn Shop
to use either parameter or you can add them to the 3rdparty.dat
file manually. If you do the latter, be VERY CAREFUL that you
use "\". Using "/" will cause the IGM to crash. It does something
that the Windows O.S. calls an Illegal Instruction.
-----------------------------------------------------

IGM installation process asks if you want to do three things.
The first is usage of the \NoBlackey parameter. If it is not
in use, you are then asked if you want to use \NoProtect. Third,
you are asked if you wish to include version data info in the
IGM's 3rdparty.dat entry lines. All three went into full effect
on Jun. 21, 2005.

I have not personally tested use of \NoBlackey yet. But it
should work OK. Until notified otherwise, use it with caution.
=============================================================

If you find \NoProtect of use, you can thank me for coding it,
and you can thank Don Young, Sysop of The X-Bit BBS, for
requesting a way to disable usage of Mercenary Protection.

If you like and use \NoBlackey, thank Chris. He created that
one a long time ago.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Internal Constants: NoBanish - activated if sysop/end-user
specified that Banish_Uses is zero. NoPoison - activated
when Poison_Uses is zero. NoKidnap - activated when Kidnap_Uses
is Zero. Notes added 08/01/05.
=============================================================

2.70: PSETUP Parameters: Added 06/23/05
========================
If you forget how to use PSETUP occasionally, just type:

PSETUP /? or PSETUP or PSETUP /HELP (then press ENTER key)

The program will show you the Switches Menu help screen.

These are the Switches that you can use with PSETUP.EXE:

/C or /CONFIG: Runs IGM Configuration.
The /CONFIG option was added in January 2005.

/M or /MAINT: Runs IGM Maintenance.
The /MAINT option was added on 06/23/2005.

/? or /HELP or /SWITCHES: Shows the Switches Menu Help screen.

/AB: Runs the "Add to Pawn Shop Bulletins" process.
/AC: Runs the "Add to LORD Conversations" process.
/AF: Runs the "Add to LORD Flower Garden" process.

/BANISH Runs the BANISH PLAYER process. Does not do
anything if you don't have a BANISH.DAT file.

/POISON Runs the POISON PLAYER process. Does not do
anything if you don't have a POISON.DAT file.

/REPORT Runs "Create/Update Usage Reports" process.
Does not work if you don't have an EXPTRADE.DAT file.
====================================================================

3.0 FILES used by Pawn Shop:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The following files are included within THE PAWN SHOP archive:

*PAWNSHOP.EXE - Main IGM executable
*PSETUP.EXE - Setup/Configuration/Maintenance program
*PAWNSHOP.SCR - Screens and dialog text required for IGM.

Note: Always be sure you use the most current copy, which can
be updated frequently during each IGM development cycle.

PAWNSHOP.TXT - This file that you are reading.
 PAWNSHOP.DIZ, FILE_ID.DIZ - Description file used by BBS's.
 PS-DESC.SDI, DESC.SDI - Description file #2, also used by BBS's.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------

These files are created during normal use of the IGM. Some
are deleted automatically each time PSETUP /M is run, either
manually or when LORD executes the MAINT.BAT file each morning.

 *PAWNTIME.DAT - Used only by PSETUP.EXE. Time/Date use file
tells program when it is first time it has
been executed or not. Used in the Daily
Maintenance process to ensure that Shop Owner
is only paid the Owner Salary ONE time per day,
effective Jun. 28th, 2005. Also limits payment
of Staff Salary and Guards Salary to ONE time
per day, effective Jul. 02, 2005.

===============================================================
** 07/13/05 Note regarding Pawntime.dat: PLEASE READ THIS!!!

I changed the structure of the Pawntime.dat to store the
three boolean values that limit salary payments to once a day.
They were inside ps-time.txt file for a few weeks. If you
use July 13 compile of PawnShop, please delete your existing
pawntime.dat file BEFORE you run PSETUP again. Otherwise,
PSETUP will crash with an RunTime error 100 message.
	--------------------------------------------------------

 PAWNBULL.TXT - The IGM's Shop Bulletins file.
	- Created by IGM when first person writes an IGM bulletin.
	- Can be deleted by the Shop Owner using Office Menu.

LNWSCOPY.TXT - Data file used in IGM to display content of
LORD's lognow.txt file. Is recreated with each usage.
Automatically deleted when Pawnshop.exe does normal exit.

The IGM uses somewhere around two dozen DAT and TXT data files.
Under NO circumstance, is the IGM to be used with any of them
write-protected. That will cause the IGM to crash.

The first four DAT files have special significance to the IGM.
So they are not automatically deleted during maintenance.

BANISH.DAT - Contains names of players to be banished for 1 Day
              from the LORD game.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: In normal IGM usage, the Shop Owner Player is immune to
ALL Mercenary Services. There is ONE exception. During
PSETUP Maintenance, if Bankruptcy event is triggered,
then the current Shop Owner loses the shop. AND their
name is added to the BANISH.DAT so that the player is
not allowed to play in LORD that day. 06/28/05 note.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------

POISON.DAT - Contains names of player who are poisoned. It also
prevents them from using LORD for a day.

SUICIDE.DAT - Contains names of players who wish to be removed
from the LORD game. Only the player who wishes
such removal can authorize their inclusion in the
file. Once deleted, unless you have a backup of
player.dat, no characters can be rescued.

Note: Players who have been Banished can NOT be Poisoned
on the same day and vice versa. A player can only be
Banished or Poisoned one time per day.

  ------------------------------------------------------------
These three files (BANISH.DAT, POISON.DAT and SUICIDE.DAT) are
handled by processes in PSETUP which run during IGM Maintenance.
Under NO circumstance, should anyone ever alter the contents of
  either file manually.

  --------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: Do not EVER manually edit BANISH.DAT and POISON.DAT
so that the same player ends up being both banished and
poisoned. That is VERY BAD behavior. I don't want players
blaming ME for such actions, so please do NOT ever do this!

  ====================================================
Post version 4.00 work: I will work on method to prevent someone
from being banished AND poisoned in the same day. Not sure if
it will easily be possible to prevent a player from being Banished
or Poisoned repeatedly day after day. Lognow.txt will report
who paid Blackey to do a Banishment or Poisoning. Alert your
sysop to any problems so they can take action against bullies
  or cheats.
  -------------------------------------------------------------

For BBS Sysops or Web-site webmasters:
IF someone reports a situation like this to you, please do
something immediately to correct it. The quickest way is
to use LPEDIT and run New Day for Player for the player or
players who notify you that such a problem exists. That will
allow them to immediately resume usage of LORD.

The #1 best way to stop people from abusing any BBS door game
is to deny them access to your BBS doors completely. If you are
looking for less drastic punishments, here are some ideas:

To immediately punish a bully or cheater INSIDE Pawn Shop itself,
you can edit their database record using SHOPEDIT.EXE. There are
various settings that you can change.

Set Visits to 20. Disallows player from using igm any more that day.

Set Adoptions to 5,000. Disallows further adoptions that day.
  And so on.

To punish bully/cheater inside LORD itself, run my LPEDIT program
and do a CLEAN SLATE on the bully/cheater. There are two modes.
1 resets player to Post-Dragon Kill settings. The other resets them
  to Brand New Player settings.

LORDCFG does not have a Clean Slate option, but you can achieve the
same results by manually changing every appropriate value in the player's
record to zeroes in the LORD Player Editor module part of LORDCFG.EXE.
  ======================================================================

HATE.DAT - Contains names of the players who violate major
rules of the IGM, or basically they get on the "bad side"
of either Wendy or Blackey, and sometimes both of them.

It is not automatically deleted. Sometimes, a person can
be kept on the HATE List more than one day, if the right
random setting occurs during PSETUP /M process.
  --------------------------------------------------

These are the other DAT files. All are deleted during
  maintenance process:

BLACKEY.DAT - Indicates who has used Blackey Menu.

CLAIM.DAT - Indicates who attempted to claim Shop Office today.

  * EXPTRADE.DAT - Required for IGM usage. Created by IGM if
it does not exist at time IGM starts executing. This is
    the IGM's player database file.

FLIRT-W.DAT - Indicates players who flirt with Wendy.
FLIRT-B.DAT - Indicates players who flirt with Blackey.
Note: Neither NPC approves of Homosexual/Lesbian behavior.

NAUGHTY.DAT - Players who are on the IGM's Naughty List.

POTIONS.DAT - Contains names of players who have met or
exceeded the IGM's Potions Trade limit each day.

PROTECT.DAT - Contains names of players who have bought Wendy's
Protection from attack by Blackey's mercenaries.

As of 06/22/05, if NoProtect is in use, ALL players are
eligible for mercenary attack except for the Shop Owner.

RESURREC.DAT - Contains names of players who were revived from
death. Players can only be revived once per day.

There are benefits if the revived player is the shop owner.
Wendy thanks you specially for being kind-hearted, etc.

ROB.DAT - Contains names of players who rob the Vault.
ROB-GOLD.DAT - Lists victims of Bank Gold theft each day.
ROB-GEMS.DAT - Lists victims of Gem Theft each day.

As of 06/23/05, if NoGemsTheft is in use, no names will
be written to Rob-Gems.dat. And if NoGoldTheft is in use,
no names will be written to Rob-Gold.dat.

SMILE.DAT - Lists players who smiled at Blackey. (Which can
sometimes be hazardous to one's health.)

WENDY.DAT - Lists players who have used the Wendy Menu each day.
--------------------------------------------------------------

If NoBlackey is in use, NONE of the DAT files used by Mercenary
Service events will be created or updated while it is in effect.
That is in effect as of Jun. 23rd, 2005.
--------------------------------------------------------------

  * LOCKFILE.DAT - If it exists, it contains the name of the
current user of the IGM. No one else can enter the IGM
while this file exists. Deleted during normal IGM exit
process. If IGM crashes, it should be manually deleted
by the end-user or sysop user.

  =========================================================
** Usage of Lockfile.dat by the IGM is temporarily disabled,
starting on Sept. 12, 2005 through current date, for purpose
of testing IGM usage with it multi-player oriented.
  =========================================================

  * PAWN-USE.TXT - Contains three Usage Reports, as of 06/21/05.
In normal IGM usage, the Usage Reports are only viewable
on-screen by the Shop Owner, their Spouse, or the Sysop
User. Viewing access inside the IGM is via Office Menu.

Viewing access in PSETUP is via Main Menu option, or by
usage of the PSETUP /REPORT command. The file is updated
each time someone uses the IGM, or when it is accessed
		  using PSETUP.
  ===========================================================

Created at IGM Installation, or during Re-configuration:
  ------------------------------------------------
PAWNSHOP.DAT: Stores the primary igm configuration values, and
the values that cover the Shop Owner player specifically. IGM
will *NOT* run if this file does not exist when it is selected
                 from LORD's Other Places menu.

                 * Usage of PAWNSHOP.CFG was discontinued on
						 January 09th, 2006. *

PSLIMITS.CFG - Stores the values used in Potions Trading limits.
Entry #1: Amount of potions player may acquire each day via
either Gems Trading, potions purchases with Gold, or Experience
Trades. Maximum limit is 16,000. Default setting is 8,000.

Entry #2: Percentage of Experience points player is entitled to
trade in each day. Maximum limit is 50%. Default setting: 20%.

Entry #3: Number of Fairy trades for Gems player may make each day.
Maximum limit is 10. Default setting: 5.

Entry #4: Number of Orphan Child trades for Gems player
may make each day. Maximum limit is 100. Default
                 setting is 50.

Entries #1 through #4 can not be set to zero. Entries
#5 through #9 may be set to zero. That disables access
to the Mercenary service they are designed for.

As of 08/01/05, I am instituting a Max Visits/Day setting for
the IGM, using range of 1-20. This is IGM Limit setting #10.

This file is also recreated when user does an IGM Reset, and is
updated whenever Configure Limits is used in a PSETUP /C session.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
3.5 Updating from Version 3.00 (or v3.10) to v3.40:

     ## NOTE: The current beta version is 3.80.0. Be sure you
are using it, instead of v3.40 please. I no longer provide
support for version 3.40, as of December 2004. Wherever this
section refers to PAWN340.ZIP, you are to use PAWNWORK.ZIP
instead, and you should always get the file from me via Email
request, so that you have the most current version of the IGM.
I can also then alert you to any code that is in progress, which
might affect how the IGM works for you.
     ===========================================================

     * Unzip ALL files from the PAWN340.ZIP archive into your
current PawnShop IGM directory, using over-write mode.
Be SURE that you unzip the current pawnshop.scr file!

     * Manual 3rdparty.dat update: Change version info for the
IGM's entry line from v3.10 to v3.40. Save the file,
and run LordMenu to update its data files, if you use it.

     * Automated installation update: Run PSETUP /C. Run the
un-install process. Then run the Configure IGM and
INSTALL processes to re-install the IGM.

     * If you have more than one installation of Pawn Shop on your
system, you have to repeat this process for EACH one that you
       wish to update.

     * When using PSETUP, bear in mind that you should ALWAYS run
it from the IGM's directory. Running it from a different location
       causes various complications occasionally.

If you spot any bugs, please report them to me, or to Chris.
     Thanks Donald. 12/30/2003. Rewritten 03/13/2005.
     =========================================================

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
3.6: Updating from any v3.xx version to current Beta:

See the Section for updating from 06-23-05 beta.
     =======================================================

     * Copies of Pawnwork.zip are backed up on my Castle Camelot
web-site about once a week. And they are also available
from the NightFall Games and Fidotel BBS servers, but those
files are not always kept up-to-date.

     * ALWAYS obtain pawnwork.zip from me directly and that way I
can notifiy you if there are any special conditions that you
need to be aware of, regarding the current beta. Occasionally,
while I am working on the IGM, some components may not work
properly, or they may contain temporary debug statements. And
possibly new events that are in testing may not work properly.

     * For every user of The Pawn Shop: Please send feedback on ANY
problems you encounter using the IGM, which you can tell are
       caused by the IGM.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
4.0 INSTALLATION:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I've tried to make THE PAWN SHOP as simple and easy as possible to
setup and install. Very little has to be done by the sysop to maintain
it as well.

** NOTE: Regardless of the IGM version, be sure to ALWAYS use the
copy of pawnshop.scr that comes with the distribution version or
with the pawnwork.zip beta archive. **

STEP 1: Create a directory for THE PAWN SHOP (preferably from within
        your LORD directory). e.g., C:\INTERNET\LORD\PAWNSHOP

STEP 2: Unzip THE PAWN SHOP archive into the directory and type PSETUP /C.

STEP 3: Press "I" for INSTALL to install THE PAWN SHOP within LORD.
You will be prompted for your BBS name but that is all.

05/31/04: Added warning note to Install process if it detects that
the pawnshop.scr file is missing from the IGM setup directory. The
IGM does not operate properly without this file so it MUST be present.
        =====================================================================

See section on Updating from 06-23-05 beta for detailed
info on installation process and configuration process.

Normal installation will result in two lines in your
3rdparty.dat file that will look something like this:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\PAWNSHOP\PAWNSHOP.EXE /N* /GC:\INTERNET\LORD\
The Pawn Shop v3.80 Beta

Will show the second line using LORD color codes, which can
be replaced or removed by the IGM's user.
																																			 `@THE PAWN SHOP `0v3.34 Beta
IF they are used, the command line can contain \NoBlackey
or \NoProtect, but not both of them.

Default color values are Red (Name) and Light Green (Version).

Adjust C:\INTERNET\LORD to match where you have LORD installed.

** IMPORTANT: The /N and /G options MUST be used. **

#############################################################
  ** Documentation revision in progress 06/22/05: **

Regarding MAINT.BAT, a command line for executing PSETUP.EXE
/M is added to it during IGM installation. If the igm is
un-installed, that line is removed from maint.bat.

As of 06/23/05, you may now also use PSETUP.EXE /Maint in
maint.bat entry if you want to. However, PSETUP may NOT
remove that entry line during igm un-installation. It is
not currently coded to do so at any rate. 6/23/05 note.

The Maint.bat entry will normally look like this, with the IGM
dir. path being different for each person using Pawn Shop:

  C:\INTERNET\LORD\PAWNSHOP\PSETUP.EXE /M

NOTE 1: The maintenance program is REQUIRED in order for
THE PAWN SHOP to function properly.

Note 2: If a maint.bat doesn't exist in your LORD Game,
          PSETUP will create one.

WARNING Note: make sure maint.bat only runs PSETUP /M ONCE.
Re-install process sometimes results in dupe entries,
so it is advisable to visually verify maint.bat content.

After PSETUP installation has updated 3rdparty.dat and maint.bat
files, it will then announce the Pawn Shop's installation in
LORD's lognow.txt daily log file automatically.

That concludes IGM installation, with one exception. If you
use LordMenu, see later note, you have to update the
3rdalt.txt file so that new IGMs, removed IGMs, or IGMs
with updated entry lines will be properly usable in LORD.
  ===============================================================

LORD Versions Compatibility Note: Pawnshop.exe, the IGM, has
zero problems working under all versions of LORD that are currently
known to be still widely in use.

This IGM is fully tested under LORD v3.55 through v4.07 beta
using August 2005 compilations of LORD v4.07 beta.

Note: No new compilations of LORD v4.07 beta were released
during the month of September 2005.

  PSETUP.exe, the IGM's setup/configuration/maintenance program,
has been thoroughly tested, and works as it is intended to do.

  ----------------------------------------------------------
If you have trouble with Maint.bat LORD crash, then you will
have to update to a current beta of LORD v4.07 beta. The problem
was fixed in early 2005. If you need to discuss LORD usage, or
report problems with LORD, you should write email to Michael
  Preslar - mike@lordlegacy.com.

  Visit http://www.michaelpreslar.com or http://www.mpcode.com,
and either site will give you info on how to contact him in
various fashions other than email and Fidonet Mail.
  -------------------------------------------------------------

LordMenu information: To acquire LordMenu v1.30 LORD utility, contact
me via Email or use the following Internet URL address.

Lloyd Hannesson is no longer doing LORD programming, and is not
currently responding to email about LORD programs any more.

Michael Preslar is working on fixing the problem with LordMenu's
3rdalt.txt file which applies to LORD and LORD/32 Beta in regards
to ANSI data strings. This problem is applicable to ALL programs
created using Turbo Pascal or Borland Pascal which use ANSI data strings.

LordMenu v1.30 may be downloaded via web browser from my Camelot
  LordNews FDN web-site:
       http://www.filegate.net/camelot/lordfile/lrdmnu13.zip

It is also available from various other sources on the Internet.

LordMenu was created by Robert Fogt, and turned over through me
to Lloyd in early 2002. Who USED to provide support for it. But
he ceased doing so in summer 2005. At the current time, there
has not been a resolution to the 3rdalt.txt problem, which can
occur with ALL version of DOS LORD.

As of Fall 2005, when LORD v4.07 beta stopped working with the
3rdalt.txt files, LordMenu is an unsupported LORD utility program.

If LordMenu is ever fixed so that it is once again fully compatible
with LORD, its support and development will be handled by me, or
by Michael Preslar possibly. End of 01-20-2006 notes section.

#### Documentation rewrite done to here, 07:56 pm 08/31/05. ####

REQUIREMENTS (minimum):
  1. LORD V3.55 or later versions.
  2. DOS 6.x or later versions.
  3. The Stay Overnight feature, for the player who is the current
shop owner, is ONLY usable when L.O.R.D. is Registered.

The Original IGM v1.x was tested under LORD v3.55.

v2.00 never was executable, due to un-patch-able RTE200 problem.
Was only tested by myself and Chris MacPherson in November
     and December 2001.

  v2.01 -- v2.90 Betas: November 2002 - December 2003 work.
Was made available only to beta tester group primarily, and
was listed for beta download on Castle Camelot web-site during
     development cycle.
  =====================================================

  v3.00 - Officially released on December 02, 2003.

  v3.10 - Officially released on December 30, 2003.

  v3.40 - Officially released on July 03, 2004.
  =============================================================

  Tested using LORD v3.55, v4.00, v4.00a, v4.06; and August 2002 -
Dec. 04, 2003 compilations of LORD v4.07 beta.

Testing has been done using Microsoft Windows ME and Windows XP,
primarily, using current v4.0x versions of Legend of the Red Dragon.
  --------------------------------------------

LORD for Linux (LORD/X beta #2): I do not offer, or provide, support
for any of my LORD programs under Linux O.S. due to lack of knowledge
and experience using any version of the UNIX operating system.

LORD for Windows: I am beta testing the program and working on
one LORD/32 IGM (FreeWorld II) and one LORD/32 Utility (Chasware
  LPEDIT/32) as of January 2006.
  -----------------------------------------------------------------

Running Pawn Shop, other LORD igms, under MS Windows XP Note:

I do not have a solution to the way Win-XP runs some DOS apps in
a 1/3-sized window. The user may have to configure the Properties
of the PSETUP.exe and pawnshop.exe files, under XP, to have them
  run in Full-Screen.

If anyone reads this, and knows better solution, please write me with
the directions on how to run DOS apps in a normal size window, especially
in relation to this and other LORD igm's files. Thanks, Donald, 08-27-2003.

4.5:  UNINSTALLING PAWN SHOP:   { 05-31-2004 }
==========================================================================
The uninstall process works as follows. First, PSETUP scans your
3rdparty.dat in the specified LORD directory location for Pawn Shop
entries. If duplicate entries - for the same LORD location - are found,
they are automatically removed. Entries for different installations
will NOT be affected, until you run PSETUP from the different install
directories. Second, the MAINT.BAT file is scanned, and lines listing
"PSETUP.EXE /M" are then removed from the file.

Third, as of version 3.30 beta, the IGM will scan the specified LORD
directory for any OUT files that are currently in use, which PAWN SHOP
has previously created. The process does not delete OUT files that
  other LORD IGMs have created.

The last uninstall step is to write a 3-line notice to Lognow.txt,
alerting players to the Pawn Shop's closure. Added in v3.30 beta.
  ===================================================================

PSETUP.EXE does not automatically delete its *.DAT files or the IGM's
PAWNBULL.TXT file. Reason being that it does not know if user will
be re-installing the igm after using Uninstall feature, so such files
need to be retained until Daily Maintenance is run the next time.

Occasionally, Pawn Shop may terminate due to some unknown problem, and
not automatically delete the Lockfile.dat file. It can cause problems
possibly if PSETUP is executed while the IGM is running, so users are
advised to do so with extreme caution.

The IGM uninstall process should NEVER be run while LORD is running,
especially if the IGM is in use.

If you are sure you don't need them, you may manually delete the IGM's
data files after exiting PSETUP. These are the *.CFG, PAWNBULL.TXT,
Pawn-use.txt, and *.DAT files created during IGM usage, which are
  located in the IGM's directory.

The IGM does not EVER create data files inside the LORD directory itself,
UNLESS you chose to install the IGM there -- which is NOT recommended.

Joseph Masters (Joseph.T.Masters@williams.edu) Pawn Shop v1.00 review:
Realistic Pawn Shop IGM. One of the first IGMs I've ever seen
that has taken an idea and completely followed through with it!
Claim the Pawnshop, and you can effortlessly run an affordable
buy/sell business. Prices aren't restrictive enough; not recommended
  for LordNet games.

No current IGM review is available. (Note: As the only person doing
IGM reviews, I'm biased and can't objectively write a new one. Especially
for programs that I've personally created or rebuilt, such as this one.
However, I think you will enjoy using the improved Pawn Shop. All shop
products pricing has been evaluated over nearly a full year. The new
version offers enhanced options such as Resurrecting Dead Warriors,
buying Horses and Fairies, and tracking of IGM use each day by sysops.
  Donald 10/31/03 revision.)

As of 02/14/04, players may now see who is currently dead in the LORD
game, using W key in the Talk to Wendy Menu. (Requires v3.18+)

There are NO refunds from Wendy or Blackey for services that you
pay for, which yield no rewards or information.

6.0 BUGS/TROUBLESHOOTING:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

PROBLEM:  THE PAWN SHOP WILL NOT LOAD!  WHAT DO I DO???  {Chris}

SOLUTION:
I've had a few comments that after installation it will announce itself
in LORD and be listed in 'Other Places' but will not load. The way to
get THE PAWN SHOP to come up is to change the fossil/internal settings
in the Node Configuration in LORD (ie. LORDCFG.EXE). You may need to
change to either Regular Fossil or Weird Fossil. Hope this helps.

* Note: This was applicable to version 1.xx, and I simply do not
know if this situation still occurs with the 3.xx versions. Donald.

After installation make sure that 3rdparty.dat entry contains /N*
/G<lordpath> parameters, or the IGM will not work properly. Also
make sure entry added to maint.bat is PSETUP.EXE /M. (Only applicable
to beta versions 2.51+.

(Note: Older v1.xx versions use a "<c:\lord\> PAWNSHOP.EXE * lordpath"
3rdparty.dat entry line setup. Please REMOVE the old entry, then
INSTALL the v3.80 Beta IGM back into your LORD game(s).

mike@lordlegacy.com or mpreslar@mailcity.com via Email.
======================================

PROBLEM: My users LOVE the new version. What do I do?

SOLUTION: Thank Chris for writing a great IGM. And thank myself
and Charlie Wardick for our work in updating The Pawn Shop. <G>

If you are an author of LORD programs, it would be nice to have
a free registered version of your programs perhaps. Or perhaps
a "personalized" version, if you have that kind of setup. Donald.
======================================

PROBLEM: Pawnshop.exe starts running and does an RTE error message.
I'm returned back to LORD immediately without getting inside the IGM.

SOLUTIONS:
1) Make sure that you have PAWNSHOP.DAT and pslimits.cfg files in
the IGM directory, AND that they refer to the CORRECT IGM directory,
and to the CORRECT LORD directory. If either file is missing, the
IGM will not run.

2) Delete exptrade.dat file, and retry IGM. If you just updated
from an older official version, such as v3.10, or from some old
betas, the old player database file is probably incompatible with
the IGM and with PSETUP.EXE.

3) The record structure for pawntime.dat, used only by PSETUP.EXE,
was updated in July 2005. If you get an RTE 100 while using PSETUP,
simply delete pawntime.dat. Then restart PSETUP using /C command
and it will recreate the file for you.

You have to restart the IGM without a player database. It will
then recreate one. That should solve any RTE problems. If it
does NOT, contact me immediately with details. Donald.

------------------------------------------------------------
Some final notes: Avoid manual edits of PAWNSHOP.DAT and
pslimits.cfg while the IGM is in use, or usage of PSETUP options
while the IGM is in use. *SOME* PSETUP functions will work OK
when the IGM is in use, others would cause problems for sure.

Do NOT mess with the lockfile.dat while IGM is in use. Also
NEVER manually delete exptrade.dat while the IGM is in use.

The same thing applies to OUT.*, MAIL*.DAT, and INFO.* files
that are in use by the IGM, while it is operating.

=========================================
*Do NOT ever modify content of Pawnshop.scr yourself, with ONE
exception. If you want different LORD color codes for an event,
you may modify those to your own preference. Otherwise, HANDS
OFF this data file. It is protected by federal and international
copyright laws.

If you don't like how something is coded in the file, then let
me know. I will then make changes to the file myself. Donald.
======================================================================

PROBLEM: The IGM reports that either Vault Gold or Vault Gems
balances are negative.   {05/20/2003}

SOLUTION: IGM is configured to reset negative balance to 100 Million
Gold. If Vault Gems is negative, it is reset to 100,000 Gems. If the
negative values is for Invested Gold and/or Invested Gems, then you
will need to run PSETUP /M to fix the two fields.

Shop ownership will be vacated if the Setup program runs the Bankruptcy
event. In which case, the IGM will return to no owner status settings.
===========================================================================

PROBLEM: During IGM entry, the IGM identifies you as the Shop's Owner
and you had not done a Claim Office igm event previously. And your
Lord character uses Lord Player number Zero.

SOLUTION: IGM was comparing the incoming player's PlayerNum field to
TConfig.OwnerNum, the Shop Owner's Player Number config file field,
and if they matched, it automatically considered you as the shop owner.

As of 03/02/2005, the IGM has been set up to use 200 as the default
OwnerNum value when there is no owner. LORD does not allow more than
150 players in a game, so no one will have a player number of 200.

That should take care of the IGM assuming that you are the Shop Owner
when you have never actually used the Claim Shop event in the IGM.

-------------------------------------------------
Side Note: As of 03/02/05, whenever there is no shop owner, the Owner
Name entry in PAWNSHOP.DAT will now say "NO SHOP OWNER" instead of
containing blank spaces.
END of 03/02/05 PROBLEM/Solution section.
====================================================================

PAWNSHOP.DAT - Manual editing: There are thirteen data lines in
the file as of January 2006. You should ONLY edit the data
lines that are for Vault Gold and Gems data manually.

Usage of LORD color codes is NOT allowed in the file.
   --------------------------------------------------------

File Structure, as of 01-09-2006, is as follows:

Line 1 is LORD Path. Line 2 is IGM Path. Line 3 is the
Sysop's LORD Handle. Line 4 is BBS Name (or web-site name).

Line 5 is the Shop owner player's LORD Name, and Line 6 is
that player's LORD Real Name. Line 7 is the Shop Owner's LORD
player number. Line 8 is the Shop Owner's Game Level. Line
9 is the # of Vault Robberies each day.

Lines 10-13 are the Vault Gold and Gems values. Line 10 is
Total Vault Gold. Line 11 is Invested Vault Gold. Line 12
is Total Vault Gems. And Line 13 is Invested Vault Gems.
   ----------------------------------------------------------

If there is no Shop Owner, Line 5 says NO SHOP OWNER. Line
6 will be empty. Line 7 will be 160 (or 200). Line 8 will
   be Zero.

Vault Limits: The IGM will not allow Vault Gold to exceed
2.10 Billion. Vault Gems can not exceed 500 Million. Invested
Vault Gold can not exceed 2.00 Billion. And Invested Gems
   can not exceed 475 Million.
   ----------------------------------------------------------

After doing edits, run PSETUP /HELP and verify that the values are
correct, before re-running the IGM. Max limits values are effective,
as of June 04, 2003. Gems Vault limits were updated on Dec. 2nd, 2003.

Should PAWNSHOP.DAT get corrupted, the simplest way to fix it, is to
run PSETUP /C, and choose the Reset IGM option. That sets the IGM
to default values, with no shop owner.

                         PAWNSHOP.DAT and PSLIMITS.CFG WARNINGS:
==================================================================
1. Do NOT EVER use LORD Color codes in PAWNSHOP.DAT OR in Pslimits.cfg.

2. Do NOT EVER try re-arranging data lines in PAWNSHOP.DAT or Pslimits.cfg.
The two files are not intended for manual editing, UNLESS you know
   EXACTLY what you are doing.

3. PAWNSHOP.DAT contains 13 data lines - as of 01-09-2006.
   Pslimits.cfg contains 4 data lines.

Under NO Circumstances, are users of this IGM EVER to add their own
data lines to either file. That can cause the IGM to malfunction.

Technical support may not be offered to anyone who disregards these warnings.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
7.0 FEATURES:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Here is a list of features, services and/or options which you can do
while in THE PAWN SHOP.

 Blackey's dark services:
Note: These services require player to have a Fairy: BANISH and STEAL.

BANISH A PLAYER: Banish a player from LORD for one full day!
As far as I know, THE PAWN SHOP is the first IGM which allows this.

Exception: If victim has been Poisoned earlier in the day, they can
    not be Banished.

DEATH CRYSTAL: You've seen them in the forest. Have a mercenary
vaporize an opponent's horse. (VAPORIZE code also works)

DISFIGURE: Decrease a player's charm level.

EVICT: Evict a player from another LORD IGM, where they are "sleeping".
You may also evict players from the LORD Inn.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
** NOTE: This event requires LORD v3.50+. Earlier versions of
** DOS LORD do not support players sleeping in IGMs.
    -----------------------------------------------------------

  * GEMS: As of late April 2005, the IGM now allows players to steal Gems from
another warrior. Gems theft can only be done ONCE per day per victim. Thefts
are limited to 1/8th of victim's Gems, or a maximum of 4,000 Gems.

INTERCEPT: Read another player's LORD Mail.

KIDNAP: Steal 1-5 children from another player. The service
cost is based on # of kids you want to steal. Usage of
Kidnap service is limited to maximum of 100 Kids Stolen/day,
or to max of 100 USES of the Kidnap service - as of 09/14/05.

LEARN A PLAYER'S BBS NAME: Is someone pretending to be someone else?
or just annoying you? Find out who it is.

LIST: View Blackey's price list for primary services.

MAIL, ANONYMOUS: Sends anonymous mail to players. Does not work
with shop owner player, since Blackey is forbidden to send his
    mercenaries after his boss.

MAIM: Decrease a player's hit points, strength, or defense.
As of 04/26/05, this event covers standard Hit-Points, and the
maim points loss is limited to 50% of the victim's stat. If the
maiming is of Hit-Points, the loss is 50% of the victim's MAX HPs.

POISON: Decrease a player's forest and player fights, and more.

Exception: If victim has previously been BANISHED on current day,
    they can not be Poisoned.

PRICE/PRICE LIST: Find out what Blackey charges for his primary
    mercenary services.

PROTECT: Curious about obtaining Wendy's Protection? Wanna know
how much you'll have to pay?

REVIVAL: Want to bring a dead warrior back to life?
Blackey will tell you about another service "stolen" by Wendy.

SPY ON A PLAYER: View ALL stats of a player including strength, defense,
hit points, charm, weapon/armour name and number (for those IGMs that
all you to change the name of weapons/armour you can tell what they
really have), if they are married, number of kids, do they have a horse,
do they have mail waiting, where are they staying (or if they are dead).
It also reports on Lays and Games Won (Dragon Kills) the target has.

As of 03/02/05, price is doubled to 10 Gems. Spy Stats screen now gives
info covering Gems, Experience Points, Gender, Skills Mastery status,
    and Player Kills.

STATS: View your current LORD stats.

STEAL: Rob a player's bank account. Gold theft can only be done ONCE per
day per victim. Thefts are limited to 1/8th of victim's Gold in Bank, or
a maximum of 250 Million Gold Coins.

SUICIDE: Tired of playing today? Going away and don't want people
killing you and getting the experience? Have your character deleted
so you can just vanish. Actual removal of player from LORD's Player.dat
is handled by PSETUP.EXE during the maintenance cycle the next morning.

Once done, this action can NOT be reversed by the IGM.

VICTIMS: List all available victims in LORD.

    Some other miscellaneous Blackey Codes:
    ---------------------------------------
BARD - Info on Seth Able. BARTENDER - Info on Inn's Bartender.
BLACKEY - Info on Blackey. CAMROC - Info on Chris MacPherson.
CLAIM - Info on claiming shop ownership.
DRAGON - Info on Red Dragon. FAIRY - Info on the Fairies.
MASTER - Want to retry your Master?
OWNER - Info on current shop owner.
VAULT - Find out how much Gold/Gems are inside vault.

FLIRT - Are you brave, or perhaps stupid enough, to Flirt with Blackey?
Be warned that he might just take you seriously. The result may
not be very pretty, or good for your health, if he does not like you!

FLOWERS, FOREST, GRIZELDA, HELP, HIRE, HORSE, GARDEN, GOLD,
JENNIE, MERCENARY, MONEY, OLIVIA, SECRET, SHREDDER, SMILE,
    SORRY, VIOLET, VULTURE, WENDY.

  -------------------------------------------------------------
09/14/05: Penalty for wasting Blackey's time: Whenever you
ask Blackey to do a mercenary service, if you forget to type
in anyone's name, you risk losing 2.5% of your experience
when he slaps you in the face. This applies to all of the
Mercenary Services and to all players - including the shop
owner. Waste his time, and you MAY pay for it.
  -------------------------------------------------------------

 Wendy, the witch.
ASK FOR A BLESSING: Wendy will look at you and rate you. Depending
on your stats she will grant you a blessing (increase hit points,
strength, defense, charm, forest fights, player fights, or nothing).

Blessings added in March 2005. Adopt two orphans. Receive 5% boost in
Experience, limited to 25 Million exp. points max reward. Adoptions event
usable as of 03/03/05. Experience event usable as of 03/10/05.

PROTECTION: Buy protection from Blackey's mercenaries. No player will
be able to send a mercenary after you for the rest of the day.

RESURRECT DEAD Player: If you're willing to pay the HIGH price, she
will cast a spell to resurrect a dead warrior. But only ONCE per warrior
per day. If the current shop owner is dead, you may also revive them,
and Wendy gives you some discounts for doing so.

FREE HEALING FOR OWNER: During Blessing, if owner is injured, or has
new Hitpoints, Wendy will heal them. For current player, who is shop
owner only. This healing should only happen ONCE per day.

  * LIST DEAD WARRIORS: Free service. Shows player whether any
Warriors are Dead in the Realm at the current time.

  * FLIRT with her. Depending on your Charm level, she may respond
by granting you something. If you are married, you may LOSE
something. Or you might be unlucky and nothing at all happens.

  * Wendy will also tell you basic info about the IGM, or about her
    fellow employee, Blackey.

The beautiful Wendy is in charge of selling Elixirs and Gems Trading.
She will only do business with you if you have been behaving properly
in the store. She also is in charge of Gems sales/purchases,
Weapon/Armour sales/purchases, and the trades for Horse, Fairy,
and Orphan Children. Lastly, she handles the ATM Service.

  * As of 03-02-2005, Wendy also offers ATM Service for a reasonable
Gold/Gems fee. Gold cost is limited to 500,000 and is 2% of player's
Bank balance. Gems cost is 25 gems.

  * As of 03-03-2005, Wendy will show players the two Usage Reports screens
for a fee of 25 Gems. All players now have the opportunity to see
the reports on IGM usage for the current day, which is otherwise still
accessible only by the Sysop User's primary LORD character at IGM exit.

  * As of 04/30/2005, Wendy displays content of the LORD News file
(lognow.txt) upon request, for free. Eventually the service
will cost a small amount of Gold and Gems. (v3.55+)

 The Office.
  --------------
Only two people have normal access - the shop owner, and their
spouse. They may do the following: View Vault Stats, View their
own Stats, Deposit Gold or Gems, Withdraw Gold or Gems, Erase
the IGM bulletins file, Read shop deed, Sleep in office overnight,
and View Customer Info Reports - there are two, as of v3.40.

Basically, nearly every benefit granted by the IGM to the Shop
Owner is also granted to their spouse. There are exceptions such
as that the shop owner spouse may be attacked by mercenaries.

Regarding Deposits/Withdrawals: Gems withdrawal will only work
when shop has over 250,000 Gems in Vault. And Gold withdrawal only
works when the vault has over 1 Million Gold.

Regardless of how much Gold and Gems the Vault contains, the shop
owner's withdrawals are limited to the amounts they have invested
in the IGM. E.g., if you have only invested 500 Million gold, you
would not be allowed to withdraw more than 500 Million.

The owner's spouse does NOT get special treatment from Wendy
or Blackey. They are NOT immune from attack by mercenaries
sent by Blackey. And if the spouse chooses to attack and kill
the shop owner wife/husband, that triggers an automatic divorce.

Lastly, the spouse does not receive a daily salary. However,
they do have unlimited access to the Shop Vault - so if they
have "sticky fingers" that's the shop owner's bad luck <G>.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
** NOTE: The Sleep Overnight event requires LORD v3.50+.
** Earlier versions of DOS LORD do not support players
    ** sleeping in IGMs.
    -----------------------------------------------------------

  Commit Treachery IGM Events:
	==============================
     ROB THE PAWN SHOP:
      ------------------
Rob the shop's vault. Great returns if you succeed.
If you fail and are caught, you will be beaten up, and thrown
out of the IGM. And if you try to return on same day, some
IGM features will not be usable by you. Only 1 robbery attempt
allowed per day. Shop owner may NOT rob his own business.

As of v3.40, the captured thief now loses 10% of their
Experience. That loss was 5% in prior versions.

      * However, the shop owner's SPOUSE can do robbery.
      * Gold theft is limited to either 500 Million or to 25% of
the current Total Vault Gold amount. Actual amount allowed
by IGM may be much less.

      * Gems Theft, as of v3.40, has three limits. #1, you may
not get more than 32,000 Gems. #2, the actual theft is
limited to 10% of Vault Gems. E.g. If vault has 100,000
Gems in it, your theft can not exceed 10,000 gems. And #3,
all Level 1-6 players are limited to 100 Gems * Game Level.
E.g., the most a Level 6 thief may gain is 600 Gems.

If you are at maxed-out levels for Gold in Hand and Gems,
you will not receive anything. So if you have 2 Billion
Gold already in hand, don't bother trying to rob the vault.
Ditto if you have 32,000 gems on hand already.

    CLAIM THE PAWN SHOP:
     =====================
If there is no owner or the owner is dead then you may claim
THE PAWN SHOP with no hassle, otherwise, you will have to take
it over from the current owner -- *IF* you win the fight. Only
one shop claim is allowed per day, per player.

Auto-Claim when current owner is dead. You try to claim office,
but find someone else has already killed the owner, who is lying
dead in the office. You receive shop ownership automatically.

You are entitled to up to a quarter of the previous owner's Gold
and Gems investment. And you receive Free healing for injuries or
new hitpoints, if applicable, when you become the new owner.
-------------------------------------------------------------

  Buy Menu
Weapons/Armour: THE PAWN SHOP will sell weapons and armour for
       85% of LORD's selling price.

Spartan Warrior Elixir (increases your Defense)
Eau de Shredder (increase your Strength)
Love Potion #9 (increase your Charm)
Ultra Ale (doubles your Hit Points)
      Gems

  Sell Menu
Weapons/Armour: THE PAWN SHOP will buy back weapons and armour
at 70% of LORD's selling price.
      Gems

 ** Buy Menu/Sell Menu Notes: August 2005 revision **
 ===================================================================
The IGM is now set up to sell weapons and armour at 85 percent
of LORD's selling price. LORD only has 15 weapons and 15 armours
that you can buy. Pawn Shop sells those 15 at lower prices, plus
it sells five additonal alternate weapons and armour.

LORD v4.07 beta does not really like it when you have non-standard
weapons/armour, especially if the # is outside the 0-15 range. So
when Pawn Shop sells #16-20 items, it re-assigns them weapon/armour
numbers in the corresponding #11-15 range.

E.g: You buy weapon #20 and your Weapon Number is changed to 15.
The prices, defense points (armour) and strength points (weapon)
values paid for or received from a weapons/armour sale were
revised to more reasonable values in late July 2005.

The IGM will buy back weapons and armour at 70 percent of LORD's
selling price. The 70 percent discount also applies to the
shop's special weapons and armour. Non-standard weapons and
armour from IGMs such as L.O.R.D. Cavern and Turgeon's House
are purchased using the 70 percent discount rate also.
=================================================================

  Trade Menu:
   ==================
1 player fight for 10 forest fights
5 forest fights for 1 player fight
      Horse for a Fairy
      Fairy for a Horse
Orphan Children for Gems (each child costs 40 gems)

Gems for Elixirs: Same as bartender, but trade is 1 to 1 with a
chance that you will get a 'bad brew' and not gain anything.

You may trade for Charm potions also - a service the Inn's
bartender does not provide his customers with.

When trading for potions, players risk getting a "Bad Brew".
When that happens, they are dropped to 1 usable Hit-Point, and
they do not receive the amount of potions they requested.

Experience Points trade. Player with over 1,000 Exp. points may
trade Experience for Max Hitpoints, Strength, Defense, or Charm points.

Note: This mainly lets you get rid of Experience, and won't
significantly increase any of the four stats. That is because
the trade is for ONE stat point, regardless of how many
Experience points you trade, per session.

     ---------------------------------
     * Trade 20 Gems for Horse - Internal limit of 12 per day.

     * Trade 30 Gems for Fairy - Max limit of 12 Trades per day.

     * Trade 40 Gems for 1 Orphan Child - 100 adoptions per trade.
       And overall limit of 5,000 Adoptions/Day - sysop-configurable.

The Fairy and Orphans Trade limits are sysop-configurable during
IGM setup, using the PSETUP /C command.

==================================================================

Multi-Node IGM Question:  { added 06/30/2004 }
As designed, the IGM can (normally) only handle one player
at a time that is actually online and playing LORD. It can
also handle a sleeping shop owner player - who is not actually
        playing Lord at the time.

** Betas since Sept. 12, 2005 are currently usable by
multiple players at the same time. **

** After the current development period is ended, the
IGM will be set permanently to multi-player mode. **

11.5: Glitch Fixes, Event Updates/Additions:  {Added 01/01/05}
===============================

1. Items array/InitItems function in PawnUnit wass using Cost
values for Items #16, #17 and #18 that were too low.

Equipment cost rates were revised on 03-01-2005 for all
weapon and armour items. The shop's maximum price for
a Level #20 weapon/armour, with discount, is now 425 Million.

2. Recompiled IGM to enable December 2004 code fixes for IGM
not displaying valid BBS Time Left amount on Status bar,
when player enters IGM with more than 3 hours time left.

3. Tested December 2004 code fixes for IGM not allowing purchases
of items such as Resurrection Spell when player had enough
   Gold, but had negative Gems.

4. Tested December 2004 code to ensure that IGM resets *ALL*
negative values encountered at player's entry to zero.

5. Fixed situation where someone finds the old shop owner dead
when they try to Claim the Office. The IGM was making the
current player the new shop owner, but it was denying them
immediate access during that IGM session to the Office Menu.
   Fixed on Feb. 28, 2005.

6. Allow players to hire mercenary to steal Gems from enemy.
Player must pay up to 1.8 Million Gold, 10 Gems, 2 Forest
Fights, and a Fairy to use Blackey's new service, and theft
is limited to maximum of 4,000 Gems or 12.5% of victim's gems.
Added on Apr. 24, 2005. Use Blackey code: GEMS.

7. IGM updated in June 2005 to allow sysops to disable access to
Mercenary Services completely using /NoBlackey parameter in
3rdparty.dat IGM command line. Sysops can disable usage of
Wendy's Protection service by using /NoProtect in 3rdparty.dat.

In IGM Limits File, it was updated to include 5 new limits
which allow sysops to limit access to Banish, Poison, Gems
Theft, and Bank Gold Theft to a range of 0-10 uses/day.

The Kidnap Children service has a range of 0-100. If either
of the five limits are set to zero, that disables all access
to the service that was set to zero.

Usage of PawnTime.dat file was added to control payment of
Owner Salary during Psetup Maintenance to ONE time per day
in June. PSETUP Maint was updated on Jul. 02, 2005 to also
limit payment of Staff Salary and Guards salary to ONE time
per day. All three Salary amounts maximum limits were updated
to allow Shop Owner to receive up to 55 Million Gold, Blackey
and Wendy can get up to 1.5 Million each day, and the Shop
Guards can get up to 900,000 Gold per day. As of 07-02-2005.

8. Tested July 2005 change to Buy Gems event. 07/13/2005.
-- IGM now has maximum Gems cost of 200,000 Gold per gem,
when the player is BUYING Gems FROM the Shop.

Tested July 2005 change to Sell Gems event. 07/13/2005.
-- IGM now has maximum Gems value of 150,000 Gold per gem,
when the player is SELLING Gems TO the Shop.

Tested changes to use of PAWNTIME.DAT file by PSETUP.EXE 07/13/05.

9. Instituted use of Horse Trades/Day limit of 12, and Visits/Day
limit range of 1-20, effective 08-01-2005.

10) Reduced amount of Experience points granted by Wendy and
Blackey in Flirting events. Slight increase in amount of
Charm and Defense granted, if no Exp. points can be granted.

11) As of 09/14/05, Pawn Shop will let players adopt up to 100
kids per gems Trade - provided player has enough Gems to
pay for them. The Kids/Day Limit now uses 1-5,000 range.

12) Rewrote PSETUP.EXE's Configuration, Install and Un-Install
processes to get rid of some glitches. (A) It was not
properly removing entries from 3rdparty.dat file - FIXED.
    (B) Entries in MAINT.BAT were not being removed during
un-install process - FIXED. Fine-tuned all three processes.
Work done on August 01-03, 2005.

12.0 Future Updates: No timetable.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

These are some ideas I have for the IGM's future.

* Conversion of Pawn Shop to work under LORD/32 is being
considered. I will probably have another IGM author with
a BBS handle the initial programming of this update.

That will be a project for 2006.
=====================================================

These will wait until the NEXT IGM development cycle:
=====================================================

* Evaluate allowing shop owner salary payment made during
Daily Maintenance to go to their player spouse *IF* the owner
already has 2 Billion Gold in Bank.

* Evaluation of random gems/gold distribution to players when
Vault Gold exceeds 500 Million, and Vault Gems exceeds 100 Million.

* Evaluation of offering Sex Change mercenary service, where you
could pay Blackey to magically change another player's Sex.

Secondary service by Blackey would perform the Sex Change,
  for a fee, on you.

========= Pawn Shop 4.00 for DOS LORD ========================
* Work on allowing more than one player at a time - on different
nodes - to use Pawn Shop IGM at same time.

I have been testing multi-user code since August 2005. Due to
lack of feedback, I have to test most IGM functions personally.
There are a LOT of them, so it takes time to get the IGM to a
point where I believe it is ready for official release.

The IGM's Player Database structure is OK as it is now, as is
the structure of the IGM Limits file - PSLIMITS.CFG.

The Configuration File structure is brand new, as of 01-09-2006,
and PSETUP.EXE and PAWNSHOP.EXE are now using PAWNSHOP.DAT as
the configuration file. SHOPEDIT.EXE does NOT use pawnshop.dat.

Preliminary multi-player Pawn Shop work is currently underway,
but will not be permanently enabled until after I've released
an interim public release, which probably will be v3.80.

Notes for Pawn Shop 4.00 added 07/02/05. Revised 01/09/2006.
