[INTRODUCTION by Jason]

So, I decided to do a simple Tavern before finishing The L.O.R.D.
Catapult. Yea, I know there are a lot of Taverns (in the LORD
universe). But this is the first FREEWARE one I've seen that lets
users stay overnight in it, although there is a new one, Aladdin's
Palace, but it costs $1,000,000 to stay overnight! There's also a
SHAREWARE one I saw that has to be registered to let users stay
overnight. This Tavern has some interesting obscure stuff in it and
it's not too expensive!

BTW: Yes, I recycled a lot of this doc from The L.O.R.D. Cavern's doc.
That's because the install program's the same, and so why write a
completely new doc? One last thing, do not use this IGM with other
IGMs that lets users kill other users, it will screw everything up!
The only one I know of is Werewolf!!, but be warned!  {Jason}
----------------------------------------

Note 1: Jason's work on L.O.R.D. Catapult IGM was abandoned around 1999.

Note 2: It is NOT advised for sysops to attempt to install Outlands
Tavern in same directory as L.O.R.D. Cavern or the Gateway. Each IGM
works best in a separate subdirectory, due to usage of identical
names for Setup.exe and Extra.cfg files - when using prior versions.

Note 3: As of 11/21/2003, Outlands Tavern is now using OTSetup.exe
for the setup program. You can discard any pre-existing setup.exe file
for Outlands Tavern, from prior versions or betas.
=============================================================

==============================================================
** SPECIAL WARNING: ** The IGM will not compile, due to amount
of code used in it, if it is coded to support 150 players, like
LORD does.

The IGM, as of 03/15/05, is only able to support 120 players
in its player database.
==============================================================

** 03/08/05: Added use of an Outlands.Scr file to hold short text
dialogue sentences.
==============================================================

  -------------
  CCL-APPS.TXT: Info and hyperlinks on all LORD programs prepared
                  by Donald Tidmore.
  ============================

  OT16-REV.TXT:  Contains miscellaneous documentation notes
                 that have been moved out of OUTLANDS.TXT.

  Files that are made by The Outlands Tavern in its directory:
  ------------------------------------------------------------
 *OUTLANDS.DAT  : Player info file.
 *OUTSTIME.DAT  : Time keeping file.
 *OUTLANDS.CFG  : Configuration file.
 *OT-EXTRA.CFG  : Extra configuration file.

  OT-USAGE.TXT : IGM Usage Reports file. Added 01/27/2005.

                  IGM initialization process. Is automatically deleted
                  during IGM exit process.

  LORD data file accessed by IGM, in LORD directory:
  --------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Is modified when the IGM is installed or un-installed.

  LOGNOW.TXT : LORD's Daily Happenings file. Updated during normal
                  IGM usage by various events, or during LCSETUP.EXE usage.

  ERROR.LOG : LORD's Error LOG file. Used by Outlands Tavern to record
                  data on any RunTime errors that occur during IGM usage.

  * = Needed for program to run.

  BTW: OTSETUP.EXE is needed for (a) installing the IGM; (b) un-installing
  it; (c) installing, viewing installed, or un-installing RHP
  script files; and (d) creating/updating/viewing the IGM's Usage
  Reports file (OT-USAGE.TXT); which are used by The Outlands
  Tavern IGM.  So keep it wherever OUTLANDS.EXE is.  {01/27/05 note}

  --------------------------------------------------------------
  During IGM exit process, if OT-USAGE.TXT does not already exist,
  it will be created automatically by the IGM. Otherwise, with
  each new IGM usage, it is updated with the current player's data.

  RHP Scripts Note: As of 01/27/2005, the IGM will track positive
  and negative changes to several numeric LORD Stats that an RHP
  Script event may change. Only positive changes are covered
  in RHP Scripts for the Skill Points LORD stats. {01/27/05 notes}
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Accessing the Usage Reports file:  {02/07/2005}
===============================================
As of Feb. 07, 2005, you may now directly access/view the Usage
Reports file by using OTSETUP REPORT command from the DOS prompt.

That bypasses the normal main menu processing that is not needed
if you are just wishing to update and view the usage reports.

One requirement: You have to have a player database file in
order to view/create/update the IGM Usage Reports file.
============================================================

 01/27/2005: Started usage of OT-USAGE.TXT for two IGM Usage Reports that
 will display all IGM usage during the current day, for all players who
 use OUTLANDS TAVERN. Report covers positive changes to listed stats
 that are done by IGM events. If player used RHP Script events,
 some stat values may contain negative amounts:

 Report #1 covers Wisdom (Experience), Max HitPoints, Strength, Defense,
 Charm, and Gems. Report #2 covers Gold, Skill Points, and Forest
 Fights. Each report includes the player's LORD Name.

===========================================================
** Last player database updates were made in February 2005.

*** 02/02/05: the Igm's Stats screen now shows Children and
    Adoptions Today entries in the columns section, following
    the line for Charm and Gems. The old line for Children
    has been taken out of usage from where it was below the
    Skill Points data lines, with Horse, Fairy, and Marital
    status information lines.

*** Effective 02/02/2005, the Red Dragon Cocktail is now coded.

    It and all other events in this IGM is/are fully operational.
================================================================

** Note: Share.exe is not required for usage on systems using
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000/NT, Windows ME, Windows XP,

06/11/05: Relocated IGM Usage Warnings, Data Files Corruption,
documentation sections to OT16-REV.TXT file.
==================================================================

Updating existing IGM installation to v1.6:
--------------------------------------------
    Unless you have been using beta versions released after
    February 2005, EVERYONE is required to delete their old
    OUTLANDS.DAT player database file before using v1.6.

    This IGM's player database structure was revised in January
    and February 2005. Old OUTLANDS.dat files are incompatible
    with the new IGM.

    Update process summary:
      1) unzip ALL files from OUTS16.ZIP using over-write mode
         to the OUTLANDS IGM directory.
      2) Delete your existing OUTLANDS.DAT file.
      3) Run OTSETUP.EXE and follow the prompts as usual.
      4) Resume using IGM as you normally do in LORD.

    If you have an old SETUP.EXE file, delete it manually.
    ============================================================

    Further notes regarding use of OTSetup.exe:

    1) Verify that IGM shows correct config settings for LORD Path,
    for example.
    2) Run Extra Configuration. As of 11/21/03, the IGM no longer
    uses EXTRA.CFG file. Setup process will automatically create the
    new OT-EXTRA.CFG, and delete the old extra.cfg file.
    3) From Extra Config menu, Save your changes.
    4) In Main Config menu, Save changes and exit.

    * If necessary, Manually edit 3rdparty.dat so that the
      Outlands Tavern entry reads: The Outlands Tavern v1.6

    This is the official entry lines for the IGM that are used in
    3rdparty.dat file.. The first line will be based on where you
    have LORD and the IGM installed. Tweak second line to use your
    own LORD color code preferences.

C:\INTERNET\LORD\OUTLANDS\OUTLANDS.EXE *
`!T`3he `!O`3utlands `!T`3avern `!v1.6

  * As of 02/02/05, the IGM will now ask you during IGM setup
    if you wish to have the version number written to the IGM's
    entry lines in your 3rdparty.dat file.

  * If using LordMenu, update its data files afterwards.

  * If you are updating from version 1.5a or a previous version,
    it is mandatory that you delete your OUTLANDS.DAT file, due
    to it having three updates since version 1.5 was released.
====================================================================

06/11/05: Relocated "Summer 2003 RHP Script Programming Changes",
"regarding the Food/Drinks Menu" documentation sections to
the new OT16-REV.TXT file.
==================================================================

                                [INSTALLATION]

Put the files in the .ZIP archive in a directory off of your LORD
directory. May I suggest naming the directory "Outlands"?

Then run OTSetup. Press 'C' to configure first. The rest shouldn't be
too hard to figure out. Just answer all the questions. Installing
(pressing 'I' after leaving the configure menu) will put the IGM's run
lines into your LORD game's 3RDPARTY.DAT file, and an announcement that
The Outlands Tavern has been installed is added to LORD's Daily News
log file.

To edit OUTLANDS.CFG manually, here's a listing of it:

OUTLANDS.CFG Listing:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\
Unregistered BBS
Unregistered
Sysop
Sysop #1

Line 1: Path to LORD with trailing backslash
Line 2: Your BBS name - Can be a web-site name also.
        If you have neither a BBS or a web-site, just make something up.
        The IGM needs something in this field, so it can't be blank.
Line 3: Your real first name
Line 4: Your real last name
Line 5: *NEW!* Your handle (optional). Displayed at start up instead of
        your real name, no effect on registration.

The path must be on the first line, and no comments are allowed unless
they are after the fifth and last line.

02/02/05: dropped registration code from IGM's config file.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Jason: You'll notice that I said it'll use non-standard com ports in the
File_id.Diz, but there's not a configuration setting for that. That's
because it gets all that stuff from LORD's Node*.Dat file. As long as
LORD is set-up right, this will be set-up right in that respect. I wish
more IGMs used that Node*.Dat, too...

These are the lines put in 3RDPARTY.DAT by The Outlands Tavern:

<path to OUTLANDS>\OUTLANDS.EXE *
`!T`3he `!O`3utlands `!T`3avern`% v1.6

Just in case you wanted to know. :^)

{ As of 05/03/03, the entry now includes the version number. }

========================================
Example: c:\lord\OUTLANDS\OUTLANDS.EXE * would be your first line,
if you installed LORD in an C:\Lord directory on Drive C:.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

                                [UNINSTALLING]
Note: To reset The Outlands Tavern, run OTSetup and press 'R'.
  Now why would you want to do that <G>? Well, run OTSetup, press 'U'.

Jason wrote this IGM originally for LORD v3.50, many years ago, so he
did not go into details about using the IGM with an IGM Expander utility.
If you do so, follow the directions in the IGM Expander program's docs.

This IGM has been tested thoroughly on various Microsoft O.S.'s, such
as MS Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP, over the years. It is fully compatible
with all versions of LORD, from v3.50 forward to v4.07 beta.

The IGM is NOT usable with LORD/X or LORD/32, since it was not designed
for use with either 32-bit beta. As of mid-July 2004, neither version
of LORD is able to run IGMs anyway.

======================================================================
Provided the user is running LORD v3.50 - v4.00a - by Seth Robinson;
or v4.02 - v4.07 (beta) - by Michael Preslar; LORD will automatically
handle as many IGMs as you wish to install. However, unless you are
using the LordMenu utility, any IGMs installed over 24 will result in
the user having the Other Places menu scroll upward until the command
prompt appears. Use of LordMenu - by Lloyd Hannesson - allows you to
list installed IGMs in a two columns per line menu.

--   http://www.nightfallgames.com/files/utils/lrdmnu13.zip

-----------------------------------------------------------------

                                  [USING IT]
Just select it in the other places. It automatically does its maintenance
when the first person of the day enters. When someone has stayed overnight
in the Tavern, the following steps occur. LORD does Daily Maintenance (if
you are the first user of the day). LORD displays your mail if you have
any, and your current Stats screen is shown. Then LORD launches the IGM,
and you are shown waking up in your Tavern room.

As of LORD v4.0x versions, The Outlands Tavern is fully compatible with
all IGMs that allow users to kill others. One example is The Pawn Shop
v3.10. Once player is killed, their Out.* file MAY be destroyed by the
IGM that allowed the death to occur. When they return to the Tavern at
a later date, they will still be treated as having slept there overnight..

past three years, adding stuff here and there. So I am well
aware it probably is too big and it definitely is messy. I will
work on a complete rewrite of the documentation files for The
Forest Outhouse, The Gateway, The LORD Cavern, The Outlands
Tavern, and the RHP Toolkit sometime in summer 2005.

1st documentation redesign step is usage of OT16-REV.TXT file.

[CLOSING]

I hope you like this IGM! BTW: Parts of this IGM were ripped out of the
first IGM I was working on, but dropped, called The L.O.R.D. Castle, which
wasn't finished. Looks like all that work now has a home <G>. Dancing,
the Stats, and the ATM were originally from that ill-fated IGM. Now for my
list of thanks:

Bye to Horizon BBS <SNIF>!

Thanks to Thomas Wendland, aka Mathias, for doing the intro ANSI.

Thanks to everyone that Beta tested this.

Thanks to Seth Able Robinson for writing LORD, releasing the PLAYER.DAT
structure, and helping with the player fight setup.

Thanks to Jemery Kink (aka Draconith) of Dragon's Keep for also helping
with the player fight setup. Sorry to see your BBS go! <SNIF>
-----------------------------------------------------------------

06/11/05: Moved Notations regarding upcoming LORD/32 versions
of the RHP-based IGMs and RHP Toolkit programs, along with 2002
programming work notes section, to the new OT16-REV.TXT file.

Data about Michael Preslar's BBS test sites for LORD/32, LORD/X,
and Web-Lord was also relocated to the OH25-REV.TXT file.

{FINAL CREDITS}

Thanks to Michael Everett, Gary Hartzell, Gordon Lewicky, and
Charlie Wardick for their assistance in beta testing updated
versions in summer 2002.

Special thanks to Charlie Wardick for lessons in learning PASCAL again,
learning how to use Turbo Pascal, and learning LORD programming.

Special thanks to Gordon Lewicky for identifying reason for IGM not
properly generating truly random numbers for determining which IGM
event is executed. Note that the faster the CPU is, the player will
still see some events occur more than others, or perhaps consecutively.

Thanks to Michael Preslar for keeping LORD alive through v4.06
and v4.07 beta.

The Outlands Tavern v2.00 Notes:
  Version 2.00: Will apply to the next DOS Lord Version, and to the
  first version of this IGM made for LORD/32 usage. However, it is
  possible that I might use version 1.00 for the Lord/32 version. I'll
  decide that sort of details sometime in late summer 2005 or later
  time.

  Version 2.00's DOS LORD version of The Outlands Tavern will be prepared and
  released either during late summer or early Fall 2005. It will use
  either A.N.G.E.L or MannDoor tool-kit, instead of DDIGM. After this
  summer, I do not intend to have a single IGM that is DDIGM-based.
  ---------------------------------

  In summary, this program may be used with DOS LORD versions and will
  be fully supported.
==========================================================================

IGM was developed using Borland Pascal 7.01 on either a MS Windows
Millenium Edition system or one using MS Windows XP.
