                         HiLite - ProBoard 2.1x PEX
                                8th March 1996

                              Manual for HiLite.

Ŀ
 HiLITE : About (C)1996 Fe-line Software

HiLite is a ProBoard 2.1x PEX that allows you to make your Current Menus
accessible using the Cursor Keys in both Local and Remote mode.

There are no external configuration files or any .INI files. All the
configuration is performed using the built in CursorMenu Editor (ALT-F).

Each Menu that has been configured has a small binary file which is located
in the ProBoard Menu Directory. The first part of the filename is the
current Menu Name and the extension is .HIL.

example: MAIN MENU is called MAIN.PBM, the HiLite Binary file is called
         MAIN.HIL.

These files are maintained automatically by HiLite and should not be edited
without using the ALT-F (Edit CursorMenu) option.

HiLite will work with any Menus, whether they are ANSI/AVATAR screens or
ProBoard Generated Menus.

Configuration is simple and quick.

HiLITE : How to Use (C)1996 Fe-line Software

Copy HILITE.PEX to your ProBoard PEX Directory.

Log onto your BBS and at each Menu that you wish to add HiLITE support to,
press ALT-M. (Menu Editor)

Add a Menu Entry to the end of this Menu.

---> HiLITE must be the LAST option in each Menu. <---

An example entry would be:

 HotKey : <CTRL-A>
 Function : 60 - Run SDK etc
 Data : HILITE

if you wish to make a Menu Option be highlighted by default when a Menu is
displayed then put the hotkey after the HILITE data parameter.

eg, HotKey : E
Function : Enter a New Message - Is our menu option to highlight by
                                       default.

then your HiLITE data line would be

    HILITE E

Exit the Menu Editor and press ENTER to redraw the screen. Your Menu should
reappear without any visible changes.

Press ALT-F to go into the HiLITE Configuration Editor.

The status bar at the bottom of the screen (The one ProBoard normally uses)
is changed to display help on how to use the HiLITE Configuration options.

PageUp and PageDown changes the currently selected Menu Option. The status
bar displays the current Menu Option.

EDIT MODE: Menu option (?) Select menu option with PageUp and PageDown
(?) is the currently selected Menu Option.

Use the Cursor keys (up, down, left and right) to move the cursor to the
beginning of where you wish to make a Cursor Highlight option, and press the
SPACEBAR.

When you press the SPACEBAR, the cursor changes into a RED block cursor. Use
the Cursor Keys again to drag the RED box to cover the required highlight area
for this menu option.

When you have highlighted the required area, press the SPACEBAR again to
save the highlight.

Use PageUp or PageDown again to select the next required Menu Option, use the
Cursor Keys/SPACEBAR as you have previously to position the highlight.

If you wish to change the colour of the currently selected Menu Option, then
press F9 or F10.

If you decide that you no longer want a particular Menu Option highlightable
or want to change the size, select the current Menu Option using PageUp and
PageDown (Status bar at foot of screen changes to show the current Menu
Option) and press DEL. The highlight will disappear. Simply redraw the
highlight if you change your mind again <g> or just leave it unselected.

Press ESCAPE to exit the CursorMenu Configuration Editor and you will be
taken back to your Menu display. If you now use the Cursor Keys, you will
see the HiLite moving around. Press ENTER to select the highlighted option.

If you press ALT-F on a Menu Screen that has already been setup with HiLITE
options, then all currently setup highlightable options are displayed and you
can edit them as you would do if you had just created them.

When using the cursor keys to navigate around the Menu, you can still press
the HotKey for the Menu Option you require.

The highlight is not shown on any menu automatically. It is only shown when
the User or Sysop presses a Cursor Key. In [EVALUATION COPY] mode, after
cursor key navigation has been used, a short beep is heard.

If a remote User is using HiLITE, then the local Cursor keys will not move
the HiLite around. This is so you can still use the ProBoard Cursor key
options to alter the current Users time etc.

If you wish to use Local Cursor keys to move the HiLITE around when a remote
User is online, you must press ALT-G first and then when you have finished
showing off <g>, press ALT-G again to turn off the Local HiLITE cursor keys.
ALT-G to turn local Hilite

If the cursor keys are pressed and you wish to cancel HiLITE, then press
ESCAPE once.

If the User is using ASCII Terminal Emulation, then cursor keys will have no
effect on your menus.

Some very interesting Cursor Menu styles can be achieved with HiLITE, all it
takes is a little imagination :-)

 HiLITE : Registration (C)1996 Fe-line Software

This version of HiLITE is ShareWare. You can use HiLITE in Evaluation mode
for a period of 30 days. If you wish to continue using HiLITE after the 30
days then you should register.

After the 30 days, HiLITE will sound a short local *only* beep. HiLITE will
still work unrestricted.

Read the file REGISTER.EUR for information on how to register HiLITE and all
other Fe-line Software in Europe, and the file REGISTER.USA for information
on registering HiLITE and all other Fe-line Software in the USA.

HiLITE is supplied "as is" and we will not be held responsible for any
damage caused by this PEX. It works on our BBS ok, so that is the only
guarantee given :-)
